Our CHRISTMAS in July
Social Event for all Club Members ; Family & Guests

Only one more sleep until the Club is turned into an ugg boot
filled winter onesie-land as we celebrate Christmas in
July in support of a good cause; I’m looking forward to seeing
the photos on my return from working in Sydney this
week.
The Club is continuing to experience outages to our phone and
internet connection at the Club and we are working
with the NBN Co to identify and fix the problem.
These issues can prove somewhat disruptive at times but in no
way should they impact on our member's ability to
complete their membership renewals as the entire process can be
completed online in a matter of minutes!
Renewing online also allows you to check and amend your
membership details such as email, address, mobile and
emergency contact details and update them at the same time.
Below are a few links to assist our members with any queries or
questions you may have with regards to the club,
policies, club redevelopment, life member photos, club fit out
etc …
Where can we find the updated Club structure and policies as
endorsed by the Board?
These can be found on the updated Club website at the following
pages if they do not appear up to date refresh your
browser by pressing F5 on your keyboard.
Policies –
http://www.scarboro.com.au/constitution-and-policies/
Structure – http://www.scarboro.com.au/club-structure/
As part of the next update to the website, the Board has
committed to also include a visual structure chart to assist
members in understanding our structure too.
The Board resolved to proceed with a number of items in their
meetings, where are these up to and are they
progressing?
Install roller shutter to bar – this is on hold pending a review
of alternative solutions.
Building signage – this was shown to members at the forum after
the AGM, the latest update from the signage
company is they are in fabrication with a timeline to install
late July.
Life Member photos – these had been planned to be displayed at
the lower level, this has been placed on hold and
the Board will go back to the membership in due course on this
matter.
Exclusive caterer – Ultimo have been appointed on an initial
term of two years by the Board, plans for after this
initial term will be considered by the incumbent Board at the
time.
Water Safety Officer – the Board opted not to proceed with
appointing this role for the 2018/19 season. The Board
opted to utilise the skills of the Patrol Captains during summer
with the ultimate authority for the approving all
events sitting with the Beach Operations Director or delegate in
their absence.
Beach Operations Plan – the plan was endorsed by the Board
following feedback from relevant Club Officers. The
final plan was then circulated to relevant Club Officers for
use, it has not been published on the Club website
although this is something the Board has agreed to review as we
update the plan for the 2019/20 season.
Parent volunteering proposal – the concept was endorsed by the
Board with the Junior Activities Committee to
develop the final details ahead of registration day including
options and monitoring during implementation.
Gym signage – terms/conditions of use signage to be installed as
part of the wider signage program to remind
members of their obligations when using the gym; the wording is
taken from the gym induction form signed by
members ahead of use.

Tuart Hill Swimming Club agreement – this is currently under
review by the Surf Sports Director to ensure that it still
delivers mutual benefits for both organisations. A number of our
junior members are currently benefiting from
training with THSC and we are looking to expand this in
2019/20.
Competition fees – these are not new having been around for a
number of seasons, a process is in place for 2019/20
to ensure these are collected from competing members through
cross-matching carnival manager reporting to our
accounts.
What is happening with the fit-out for the function room and bar
area?
The Board has agreed to put this out to the members through
forming a design committee to present ideas back to
the Board for consideration, expressions of interest will be
sought from across the membership through the Echo.
The Board will set design parameters and considerations for the
committee to consider as part of their work.
Is there the option to host the Club Annual Dinner & Awards
night at the new Club Rooms in 2020?
The Board has noted this request and will look into the
practicalities of hosting the event at the Club, capacity will
likely be limited though due to the size of the Club versus the
numbers wanting to attend.
See you down on the beach on my return from Sydney.

Surf lifesaving to return to Denmark for 2020 championships
Following a hugely successful carnival which saw nearly 1,000
competitors from across WA converge on Ocean Beach,
Denmark over the 2019 Australia Day long weekend, Surf Life
Saving WA has announced that they will return to
Denmark as the site of the 2020 SunSmart Country and Masters
Championships over the Labour Day long weekend of
29 February – 1 March.
Surf Life Saving WA (SLSWA) President Craig Smith-Gander said
the success of the 2019 Country Carnival, the largest
held in recent years, demonstrated the capacity of the club and
town to host a sporting event of this scale, as well as
the desire of the members to travel to a regional location like
Denmark for events.
In addition to the championships, SLSWA will also host a senior
carnival, including surf boats, open to competitors
from all clubs, providing another opportunity to participate in
a state level competition, with the possibility of good
surf conditions, just 4 weeks out from the 2020 SunSmart WA
Championships.
Lets get excited about this one and see if we can have a large
Scarboro SLSC group of Master Athletes attend,
bookings will start filling up.
Meeting opened at 6:05pm Present – Jody Ballard (JB), Phil
Cooper (PC), Tony Ince (TI), Marissa Welch (MW), Ben Whitehurst
(BW), Angus McMillan (AM) Apologies – None Welcome – JB welcomed
the Board to the first Board meeting for the 2019-20 season. There
were six (6) board members present so a quorum existed. No
conflicts of interest noted.

Function Room Working Party Update Last night the Function Room
Working Party had its first meeting to discuss a few different
concepts for the interior fit out of the function room. We have a
few design concepts in the planning phase and will be consulting
with various companies to see what kind of options are best for our
club and its uses. This is a long process but it is moving forward
from here on in. I look forward to our next meeting in a few weeks,
when we really start to make some headway into the project.
Exciting times ahead. Thanks,
