Trademark care The Scania symbol and logotype represent the Scania trademark – products, services, people, core values and company culture – as well as the legal entities comprising Scania AB and its subsidiaries. It is of the utmost importance that this representation is always carried out correctly, consistently and professionally.
This manual contains a set of rules for Scania AB and its subsidiaries. Adherence to the manual is required for use of the Scania trademark by all of our independent dealers. Since it is impossible to produce a manual for our operations which is both comprehen-sive and easy to use, there will always be questions. Please contact your importer for assistance. If the inquiry requires an answer from Scania CV AB, the contact must be made through the appropriate importer.

Symbol & logotype in combination Our most distinctive feature is the combination of the symbol and logotype. It is always the primary choice for senders and letterheads – the symbol and logotype may be used separately only in exceptional cases. It is important that the combination is used consistently.
The colour combinations, relative positioning and proportions of the logotype and symbol are fixed, with only a few exceptions. Other versions are not permitted.
ArtworkDigital artwork for the Scania symbol and logotype, as well as printed colour samples, can be ordered via the regular parts ordering system (Part No. 1594812).

Relative positioning and proportionsThe symbol may either be placed centred, above the logo-type, or vertically centred to the left of the logotype.
The logotype must be 2.5 times wider than the symbol (which is thus 0.4 times narrower than the logotype).
The distance between the symbol and the logotype must be equivalent to the symbol’s height x 0.11.
Flags and exterior signs have different proportions between the symbol and logotype.
The simplest way of ensuring correct positioning and proportions is to use complete and correct originals only.

Free zone To ensure that the symbol and logotype are clearly visible, a sufficient sur-rounding margin must be created. We call this margin the “free zone” and define it as twice the width of the distance between the symbol and logotype.
The free zone extends around the entire combi-nation of symbol and logotype, with the exception of attached text, as shown in the example.

Logotype Scania’s logotype is one of Scania’s registered trademarks. It consists of the name, Scania, in upper case letters set in a specially designed typeface. The logotype must be treated as a coherent entity for which the elements and proportions may not be changed. The logotype must always be reproduced in its entirety. Scania’s logotype may be used with or without the symbol (see the specification below). However, it may not be combined with other symbols or text without permission from your importer, who will contact Scania CV AB, Marketing Communications.
Do not use the logotype in body text.
Separate logotype or in combination with the symbol
The combination of the symbol and the logotype is the normal representation of the Scania trademark. However, in certain cases the logotype may be used separately.
1. As a trademark on Scania products – vehicles and vehicle parts
2. In a format which is so small that the symbol cannot be reproduced correctly with the available technology
3. Signs on factories, dealers’ premises and contracted workshops – see “Exterior identity”
4. On campaign flags
5. On forms intended for the company’s internal use

Symbol Scania’s symbol is one of Scania AB’s registered trademarks. It consists of a griffin in a stylised hub and must be treated as a coherent entity for which the elements and dimensions may not be changed. The symbol must always be reproduced in its entirety and may not be separated unless special permission has been obtained. The symbol may be used without Scania’s logotype on vehicles, signs, give-aways and on the front cover of bro-chures. However, it may not be used as the only agent.
Scania’s symbol may not be combined with logotypes other than Scania’s own.
Separate symbol or in combination with the logotype
The combination of the symbol and the logotype is the normalrepresentation of the Scania trademark. However, in certain cases the symbol may be used separately, e.g.
– As a trademark for Scania products – vehicles and vehicle parts.
– Give-aways produced by Scania, e.g. lapel pins, badges, etc.
– Signs on factories, dealers’ premises and contracted workshops.
ArtworkDigital artwork for the Scania symbol and logotype, as well as printedcolour samples, can be ordered via the regular parts ordering system (Part No. 1594812).

Numerous variants of Helvetica are available from all major typeface manufacturers all over the world. To achieve an identity-creating likeness, the following versions of Helvetica must be used (the manufacturers’ names are provided in brackets).

EXTERIOR IDENTITY
Our colours are important identity-creating elements. Our company colour is dark blue (PMS 282) and must be the preferred choice in one colour (monochrome) reproduction. The symbol also contains red, gold and silver. In triple-blue fascias on the fronts of buildings, we also use a light blue and medium blue colour. In order for these colours to correctly convey our identity, they must be used with discernment – in moderation and in the right context.
The art of ordering the correct colour
Colours vary in the end result due to differences in reproduction methods and surfaces. In order to keep deviations at an acceptable level, colour samples (in addition to colour numbers/colour combinations) must always be enclosed as a gauge of the required end result. Colour samples can be ordered via the regular parts ordering system (Part No. 1594812).

Dark blue – “Scania blue” is Scania’s primary company colour. It is used for the logotype and symbol, as a background colour on negative signs on fronts of buildings, etc.
Gold is used for the griffin’s crown in the symbol. On illuminated material, e.g. light boxes and OH transparencies, it is replaced by golden yellow PMS 138 (see below).
Stationery for Scania and subsidiaries differs from stationery for independent dealers primarily with regard to the logotype’s function – for independent dealers the Scania symbol and logotype represent a product brand, whereas for Scania and sub-sidiaries it also represents the legal sender.

E65 and C6 envelopes: Simplified version, 13 mm high, positioned in the top left-hand corner with a 12 mm–15 mm margin to the top and left-hand edges.
Larger or smaller format: The symbol and logotype can be adapted proportionally.
Paper
White or brown. Environmentally adapted.
Company name and address
We have two different ways of positioning a company name and address:
Two line address – the company name is attached directly to the logotype, the address placed alongside in line with the name and under a dividing line.
Separate address – the address is pos-itioned left-justified at the bottom of the en-velope, on 1–2 lines with 15 mm margins to the left and bottom edges. The company name and address must be typeset in Helvetica Roman 8 pt with 9.5 pt line spac-ing, the name must be in upper case and the address in uppercase/lowercase.
Colours
One colour (monochrome) print in Scania’s blue (PMS 282) on white envelopes or black on brown envelopes. Four colours (blue, red, silver and gold in accordance with the corporate colours) only on white envelopes.

SCANIA AND SUBSIDIARIES
INDEPENDENT DEALERS
EXTERIOR IDENTITY
Independent dealers When Scania’s symbol and logotype are used by Scania AB or one of its subsidiaries, they represents not only the Scania trademark but also symbolise the agent. However, in the independent dealer’s com-munication, Scania’s symbol and logotype represent only the Scania trademark – the agent is the dealer. It is important that there is no doubt about this, particularly on legal/economic documents such as letters, invoices, order slips, etc. As a rule, on all docu-ments except for business cards the Scania identity must be clearly subordinate to that of the dealer – the simplest method is to ensure that the dealer’s logotype is larger and has a superior position. (Note that Scania’s symbol and logotype may not be directly combined with other names, logotypes or symbols.) On business cards and envelopes used in product-related campaigns, the independent dealer may select which trade-mark should be most prominent.

Business cards
Example of a business card with dominating product identity (Scania). Pre-printed sheets (blanks) for business cards may be ordered via the regular parts ordering system, Part No 1591478. 32 business cards on each sheet.
Example of a business card with dominating dealer identity (Truckers AB).
Letterhead The dealer’s logotype is placed in the upper left-hand corner, at least 20 mm from the left edge and 7 mm from the upper edge, in a larger format than Scania’s symbol and logotype. Scania is placed in the lower right-hand corner. The simplified version of the symbol must be used, 10 mm–13 mm high and 7 mm–20 mm from the right-hand edge.
Letterhead and invoices The dealer’s company identity is dominant, with its logotype in the upper left-hand corner. Scania’s symbol and logotype occupy a subordinate position in the lower right-hand corner of the document, have a smaller format and are clearly separate from the dealer’s logotype and address.
Special regulations for letterhead and forms Scania’ symbol and logotype may be used on letterhead for independent dealers only if the dealer’s company identity is clear and dominant and there is no doubt concerning who is legally responsible. All such use must therefore be approved in advance by your importer, who will contact Scania CV AB, Marketing Communications, to obtain permission in any uncertain cases.
The simplified version of Scania’s symbol and logotype must be used, and must be within the size range: 10 mm–13 mm high.

Forms The dealer’s logotype is placed in the upper left-hand corner, at least 20 mm from the left edge and 7 mm from the upper edge, in a larger format than Scania’s symbol and logotype. Scania’s symbol and logotype are placed in the lower right-hand corner. The simplified version of the symbol must be used, 10 mm–13 mm high and 7 mm–20 mm from the right-hand edge.
Envelopes On envelopes, Scania’s symbol and logotype are positioned according to one of the following alternatives:
Subordinated – the simplified versions of Scania’s symbol and logotype are used, 10 mm–13 mm high (smaller than the dealer’s logotype), in the lower left-hand corner with a margin to the edges which is at least equal to the height of the symbol, and completely separate from the dealer’s logotype and address.
Superior – campaign alternative for product-related activities. The standard versions of Scania’s symbol and logotype are used, 14 mm high (the dealer’s logotype is reduced in size), in the upper left-hand corner with a margin which is at least equal to the height of the symbol, and completely separate from the dealer’s logotype and address.
Scania’s symbol and logotype are printed either in one colour (monochrome) in Scania’s blue (PMS 282 in accordance with the corporate colours) on white envelopes or black on brown envelopes. Four colours (blue, red, silver and gold in accordance with the corporate colours) are used only on white envelopes.

Relative positioning and proportionsThe logotype must be 2.5 times wider than the symbol (which is thus 0.4 times narrower than the logotype).
The distance between the symbol and the logotype must be equivalent to the symbol’s height x 0.11.
Flags and exterior signs have different proportions between the symbol and logotype – see “Flags”
The simplest and of ensuring correct positioning and proportions is to use complete and correct originals only.

Free zone To ensure that the symbol and logotype are clearly visible, a sufficient surrounding margin must be created. We call this margin the “free zone” and define it as twice the distance between the symbol and logotype.
The free zone extends around the entire combination of symbol and logotype, with the exception of attached text, as shown below.

Attached text Typeface
Helvetica Roman, upper case and lower case.
Size
The upper case height may not exceed the logotype’s height x 0.45.
Positioning
Left-justified under the logotype in the side-by-side combination, and centred under the logotype in the centred combination. The distance between the baselines of the logotype and text must be 0.72 x the logotype’s letter height. This means that there is an optical alignment with the bottom edge of the symbol in the side-by-side combination.

Free zone The symbol must have a sufficient surrounding margin to ensure that it does not become combined with a logotype other than Scania’s. We call this margin the “free zone” and define it as 0.22 x the symbol’s height. The free zone extends around the entire symbol.
Always use correct original Scania logotypes and symbols.

PowerPoint layoutSymbol and logotype
Left-justified version, 54 mm wide, positioned 3 mm from the bottom edge and 5.5 mm from the right-hand edge. GIF or EMF file format is recommended.
Border
A 6.1 mm wide border in dark blue runs from left to right on the slide. Adjust the border to reach the left edge of the slide, starting from the free zone to the left of the symbol and logotype. In the negative PowerPoint layout we replace blue with white on the border and use the negative version of the left-justified symbol and logotype.
