Thailand: Situation analysis of TB and HIV

• In 2010, 90% of TB cases were tested for HIV co-infection, out of which 16% were found to be HIV-positive.

• Out of the co-infected cases, 71% are receiving CPT, while 53% are receiving ART.

• There was a TB/HIV guideline since 2008.

Specific interventions

• BTB & BATS coordination:

– strategy management committee (4+ meetings/year),

– Involvement in the new HIV guidelines development

• M&E: Implement the TB/HIV report form

− TB screening among the HIV infected

− HIV screening among the TB patients

− ART among the TB/HIV

• Conduct studies to identify the cause of death among

TB patients including TB/HIV

Challenges and lessons learned

• Coordination body in all levels• High mortality in TB/HIV:

– Delay diagnosis of HIV and start treatment• Notification in private sector• Selection of indicators for policy and program

level (AIDS Zero Portal)

Next steps

• Establish formal coordination body in different levels

• Setup TB expert committees in regional levels that will closely work with HIV expert committee

• TB/HIV will be monitored through AIDS Zero Portal in 2014

• Study on cause of death in areas with high TB/HIV mortality

WHO recommendation : Any CD4 count of all TB/HIV patients should be consider ART treatment.
