Message froM the tourisM secretary

The Department of Tourism (DOT) sends it warmest greetings to the participants and organizers of the Subic-Boracay Race & Boracay Cup 2013!

Nautical tourism is among the products that the department will further develop to enhance the country’s global competitiveness as a major tourist destination. The Philippines, being an archipelago of 7,107 beautiful islands, is naturally a premier sailing destination. Both Subic and Boracay are among the crown jewels for sailing and other similar water-based recreational and sports activities.

Boracay Cup is one of the many initiatives that help stimulate tourism and add value to our offerings, highlighting the Philippines not only as a destination for breathtaking sceneries, but also as a FUN place for adventure and sports.

We hope that initiatives such as this will be carried forward and favored among enthusiasts here and abroad. May it continue to bring in more people to visit the country and experience the warmth of the Filipino people.

We wish you success in staging this event and to the participants, we wish you more fun in this prestigious competition!

Mabuhay!

This event is a chance to boost the eco-tourism of our province and build lasting camaraderie to our international visitors.

To all the tourism partners of this event- the Lighthouse Marina Resort, Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority, Subic Bay Yacht Club, Philippine Sailing Association, congratulations for imprinting another historic event in the sailing community!

3rd Subic Bay to Boracay Race & Boracay Cup Regatta 20136

Whether for leisure or competition, sailing in Subic Bay has regained its former stature and popularity.

Adding to Subic’s prestige as a premier sailing destination are two international regattas, which

are part of the Asian Yachting Grand Prix Circuit. These are the Subic Bay to Boracay Race and the Boracay Cup Regatta, and the Commodore’s Cup, which have been held here for the past three years.

On behalf of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority, I am thus most pleased to welcome all local and foreign participants to this year’s Subic Bay to Boracay Race and Boracay Cup Regatta, as they compete for the distinct titles of “Asian Yachtsman of the Year” and “Yacht of the Year”, among others.

As sailing enthusiasts once again see action in Subic Bay, I would also like to thank the organizers and supporters of these much-celebrated sailing events. Together let us continue boosting Subic Bay as a top-drawer for sailing and other sports.

Mabuhay kayong lahat!

Message froM the sBMa chairMaN

It has been the main objective of the Philippine Sailing Association to implement a training and development program to promote sailing and other sailing-related activities in the Philippines. It has been

supporting various international regattas hosted by the Philippines through technical aid such as Officiating, Sanctions and Equipment Support.

It is, indeed, a great privilege on our part to provide assistance for the 2012 Subic-Boracay Race. More than the highly-coveted trophy that every participants hope to bring home, is the spirit of teamwork, friendship and sportsmanship that must be given high importance. Events such as this, hopes to strengthen the passion for sailing and other water activities.

My deepest gratitude to the unwavering support of sponsors, who in one way or another, have shared their resources to support this event. I would also like to congratulate the participants for their continuous dedication of the sport.

All aboard and together we shall sail!

In any competition, safety must always be the highest priority. This is exactly the reason why the Philippine Coast Guard will be on hand to make sure that 2012

Subic Bay to Boracay race and the 4-day Boracay Cup Regatta will follow the safety standards and procedures to avoid any accident while sailing enthusiasts will be at the Philippine sea.

Events such as this, does not only

create a positive impact on the Philippines as a sailing destination but also on the Philippine Coast Guard as a partner in maritime safety and security. As mandated, the agency will not only protect the life and property at sea but will also serve as a support group in carrying gears and supplies during the race.

To everyone behind this event,

Congratulations!

Sail on and be safe!

*DRAFT MESSAGE?

My warmest congratulations to Boracay Cup Regatta Committee. Now on its 5th year of staging the boracay Cup Regatta in Island of Boracay, this event is a great milestone for both local and international sailors and yacht owners as this competition evolved into a much anticipated event in the sailing community.

This sporting event which started 11 years ago, which is now an annual event held in the Island of Boracay, manifests that though coordination among stakeholders, Boracay can be at par with the best in the world not only as a tourist destination but in hosting an international sporting event as well.

In behalf of the people of the Municipality of Malay, home of the Wolrd’s Best Island – Boracay, we welcome all the participants, organizers, sponsors and sport enthusiasts to the Subic to boracay Race & boracay Cup Regatta

3rd Subic Bay to Boracay Race & Boracay Cup Regatta 20138

Being among the prime movers of the annual Subic Bay to Boracay Race and the Boracay Cup Regatta, we cannot help but feel elated by the turn out of this international regatta in terms of popular support from our countrymen as well as its prominence and success in the Asian Yachting Grand Prix Circuit.

No doubt, the staging of these races have proven to showcase the twin venues for the events, Subic Bay and Boracay, now two of the best tourist spots in the country and best sailing destinations in the world.

Both sailing events attract the international fraternity of grand prix keelboats and sailors from all over the world making the country the fast rising “Sailing Mecca” of Asia and the Pacific.

As in the last three years that we have successfully staged these twin events, we wish to sincerely acknowledge the support of sponsors and the dedicated people who have made the fourth edition of the Subic Bay to Boracay Race and Boracay Cup Regatta attain its level of success.

Thank you to the many nameless volunteers, race officials, race management team, off-shore and in-shore, events coordinators, who worked tirelessly behind the scenes and the hordes of participants from all over the globe who enthusiastically joined these great regattas.

Allow us to extend our best wishes on the six glorious days of racing echoing the wisdom of Edmund Gibbon: “The wind and the waves are always on the side of the ablest navigator.”

Let’s all enjoy the twin races, explore and enjoy the many other wonderful sights and sounds of the Subic Bay area and Boracay island.

LET THE 2013 RACE BEGIN!

3rd Subic Bay to Boracay Race & Boracay Cup Regatta 201314

As things stand right now, the Subic Bay to Boracay Race and the Boracay Cup Regatta 2013 is fast becoming a buzzword in the international regatta competitions, literally “making waves” in the Asian Yachting Grand Prix Circuit.

Sailing in Subic has evolved with growing popularity and interest over the last several years. It should be noted that with these regatta events, the Philippines is ranked

high among the beautiful places to see in the world as well as a premier sailing destination.

For the last three years, Subic Bay has been host to two international regattas that are part of the Asian Yachting Grand Prix Circuit: the Subic Bay to Boracay Race and the Boracay Cup Regatta in February and the Commodores Cup in April.

Acclaimed as one of the best regattas in Asia, the Subic Bay to Boracay Race and the Boracay Cup Regatta are once again bound to make waves throughout February 15-22, 2013. These regattas attract Grand Prix Yachts, and top notch local and foreign sailors vying for the prestigious “Asian Yachtsman of the Year” and “Yacht of the Year” titles.

Last year’s overall winner of the combined regattas is our very own Ray Ordoveza on Karakoa. A number of international yacthers will give Ray a run for his money to defend his title in this year’s edition which is foreseen to be a tight race in the Racing Class. These include former Yachtsmen of the Year Frank Pong on Jelik, Sam Chan on Free Fire and Neil Pryde on Hi-Fi. Other notables are veterans and multi titled Geoff Hill on Antipodes, Judes Echauz on his new boat Centennial II, Martin Tanco’s Centennial III and Jonathan Mahoney on Zanzibar who are expected to compete for the top division.

Regatta is More Fun in the PhilippinesThe Subic Bay to Boracay Race and the Boracay Cup Regatta 2013

The gruelling 210 nautical mile ISAF Cat 3 Offshore race from Subic Bay to Boracay Race starts at noon on February 16 and will take between 17-40 hours, depending on the size of the boat and the sea and wind conditions in the route. This will be followed by four glorious days of windward-leeward races and off shore races around the beautiful and exotic island of Boracay known as the Boracay Cup Regatta from February 18 to 22.

Overall Winners in each Class (Racing Class, Cruiser Racing Class and Cruising Class) of the combined Subic Bay to Boracay Race and the Boracay Cup Regatta series will bring home an impressive hand crafted solid brass trophy replicas by Ferdinand R. Cacnio, a multi-awarded visual Filipino artist, officially commissioned by the Provincial Government of Aklan designed and made the trophies.

Support from Government and Private Sectors

Since its inception in 2009, the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) under the leadership of former and present Administrator RADM Feliciano Salonga and Roberto “Bobby”Garcia, respectively, have been instrumental and fully supportive of this high profile sport of yacht racing that puts the Subic Bay Freeport Zone as one of the favoured sailing destinations in Southeast Asia.

The Provincial Government of Aklan led by its Gov. Hon. Carlito Marquez and Vice Gov. Hon. Gabriella “Billie” Calizo-Quimpo and the Local Government of Malay Mayor Hon. John P. Yap have also embraced and given their full backing to the sport to promote tourism in the pristine Island of Boracay in a different light.

Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) Chief Executive Officer Gov. Mark T. Lapid, an avid water sportsman himself, and the Department of Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez Jr. have both made sure that yacht racing is more fun in the Philippines!

The Commandant of the Philippine Coast Guard, RADM Rodolfo Diwata Isorena, like his predecessor RADM Edmund Tan, with its mandate and responsibility to protect, regulate and enforce maritime laws, safety of life at sea and other maritime activities of the country, has continued to extend its support for the regatta by providing a patrol sea craft escort for the safety of all local and foreign participants in this weeklong event.

The Subic Bay to Boracay Race and Boracay Cup Regatta are organized by SAGS and Boracay Cup Organizing Committee under the auspices of the Philippine Sailing Association in conjunction with The Lighthouse Marina Resort, The Municipal Government of Malay, The Philippine Coast Guard, The Provincial Government of Aklan, The Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority and Watercraft Ventures Corp under the auspices of the Philippine Sailing Association.

All these ingredients plus the of support of private businesses such as Cebu Pacific, the “Yachtie Friendly Airline”, the official air carrier of the Regatta, Lighthouse Marina Resort, Recreational Outdoor eXchange (R.O.X.), Subic Bay International Terminal Corporation (SBITC), Standard Insurance, San Miguel Beer, Tanduay, Punta Fuego yacht Club, Boracay Beach Resort, and Discovery Shores, truly put Subic Bay and Boracay in the sailing map of international yachting competitions. Manila Bulletin, Business World, Mabuhay Magazine, Asia-Pacific Boating, Smile Magazine, Fragrant Harbour, Expat Newspaper, Expat Magazine, Subic.com, Subictimes.com and Subicupdater.com as media partners help promote these great events to the entire sailing world.
