VALUES:
Every developmental project would be ‘women centric’.
Need Based Programs will be implemented. Community Need and convenience has Greater value than organizational convenience.
The organization considers itself complementary to the Government’s work in development- neither parallel nor replacement.
The organization is only a ‘catalyst’ in social transformation and the local community members as the ‘real change makers’.
Every program of the organization essentially should have the beneficiary/ local community contribution in different forms.
The organization will always look for Sustainable Solutions in development.
The organization will try to find win- win situations through networking of resources, volunteers, like- minded people, organizations, departments, institutions, resources and the needy people.
No discriminations on the basis of cast, religion, gender, language in social development projects.
We would have ‘Holistic Approach’ towards development.
We would like to keep everything ‘Tangible’ in projects implementation.
We would impart up to date methods in project planning, implementation and evaluation. CURRENT TRUST BOARD

C. THE PROJECT HAS MADE A
DIFFERENCE!
Sandeep Trimbake, 30, lives in Prakashnagar slum was suffering from chronic illness. As a last resort, he was brought to NSDL- SRAK project where his thorough clinical examination reviled his Severe Anemia. He had only 7.7 Gm% of Hb.
14
After a complete examination, Investigations, treatment of 3 months and Counselling, Sandeep now has drastically improved. All his physical complaints are gone with improvement in his Hb levels (15.7 Gm% currently). Similarly, Vimal Ghaytilak, 40, of Sanjaynagar had a persistent feeling of illness and fatigue. After investigations at NSDL-SRAK Project, she was diagnosed to have Severe Anemia (Hemoglobin level had dropped to a dangerous level to 4.6 Gm%. After a thorough counseling and three months of treatment, her Anemia was cured to great extent (Hb 10.7 Gm%) with all her complaints gone! Dattatraya Waghmare of Sanjay Nagar was suffering from various symptoms but wasn’t diagnosed. At NSDL- SRAK Project his Severe Anemia (Hb 4.9 gm% against the normal range of 12-15). Subsequent treatment and counseling made him healthy again with his Hemoglobin (Hb) levels corrected up to a near- normal of 11.6 gm%. Zumkabai Bamnawat also a resident of Sanjaynagar was also suffering from Severe Anemia. With the timely intervention from the project team, Zumkabai got rid of her Anemia (Hemoglobin 11.6 gm% from initial 5.7 gm%) Namdeo Sable, a resident of Sanjaynagar watched the Street Play on Female Feticide at Sanjaynagar. He was moved by the topic and the effective staging of the play by the artists. After the play, he spontaneously came forward and shared with the viewers that he felt ashamed of his two daughters and always wanted a ‘male’ child. After watching the street play, he has realized how wrong he was and pledged to be a good father to his girl children! The Project has made a difference!
Sonali Garandwal, 25, Rohidasnagar, couldn’t go for her Ear Surgery as it would cost her 25000 Rs in private hospitals and the Govt. hospitals wouldn't perform it in time. She was bearing the discomfort and pain for months together. She could get rid of her illness only when NSDL- SRAK Project took her case, diagnosed it with the experts and referred her to the parent hospital where they performed the much needed surgery. The bill was paid through NSDL- SRAK project and Sonali can hear normally.
Sarutai Kumbhar, 19, Ramnagar, has a similar story to tell.
She could get rid of her irritating ear disease only after the surgery performed through the proect; which otherwise wouldn’t have possible to her.
15
Kaushalyabai Bochare of Santoshimatanagar slum, gradually lost her vision by Catract and could not even perform her daily activities. Coming from a very poor family, Kaushalyabai was not able to get the Catract surgery done at a reputed hospital. She was operated for Cataract and has regained her vision after NSDL- SRAK project picked her for the free IOL surgery through our project. Kaushalyabai today is living a happier life with her sight back to normalcy. The counseling and dedicated efforts for Anemia Correction are paying back. Many women are made aware as well as their Anemia is getting corrected through the Anemia Clnics of NSDl- SRAK Project.
Vanita Lamane, Indiranagar, Mukundwadi always had various complains especially, the fatigue and weakness. On investigations, she was found to be Severe Anemic patient. Her Hb was a mere 5.4 gm% (Normal is >11.5 gm%) NSDL SRAK Project Team provided all counseling, treatment and follow up to get her Anemia corrected. Her Hemoglobin levels were increased to a completely healthy 13.4 gm% after all the efforts with all her complaints gone!

D. The Project has made a difference:
KVP’s powerful counseling: The females who receive Rubella Vaccination are advised to avoid Pregnancies at least for 3 months after the vaccination. In slums and rural areas, always there are chances that the parents would any time fix marriages of girls above 18 (sometimes even less than that!). On this background, Rubella Vaccination to the late adolescent girls is risky.
Brijwadi girls Amruta Hiwrale (19) & Archana Suryawanshi (21) got the same advice when they were vaccinated recently. Unfortunately, their parents fixed their marriage soon after the vaccination. Because of the religious reasons, the parents organized their wedding ceremonies in a hurry. KVP was following up them and when the team came to know about these weddings, they had counseling sessions of mothers of these girls. They suggested them to postpone the marriage ceremony, but it was
not possible. The mothers of Amruta and Archana could sense the urge from KVP Team and found out a middle- path. They allowed the wedding ceremonies happen but didn’t send their daughters to their in-laws for next 3 months in the wake of avoiding pregnancies as advised by KVP.
In an ordinary situation, such unusual decision from the mothers seems impossible. KVP Team’s relentless counseling was so powerful, that it even made the slum women take extraordinary decisions! KVP Provides Developmental Opportunities Sandhya Madhukar Hiwrale, Brijwadi, is an active participant of all KVP activities. Sandhya could find her hidden talent after becoming a part of KVP. She now writes poems on social issues. Her poems motivate to all other girls and it has given her a new identity amongst her peer. Sandhya says that she would never find her ability as a poet if she didn’t get a chance to be a part of KVP! KVP Re-admits 14 School Drop Out Girls to School! Milindnagar KVP found out 14 Adolescent Girls are school drop outs. They have left the schools for various reasons- mostly because of the constraints from their families. A special Team was formed to deal this which had number of home visits and parental counseling sessions. Some of the girls even had turned into child labors. With KVP’s efforts, all of them are re-admitted to schools are enjoying their learning. The list here gives the details of these girls. Thanks to KVP- Bhagyashree and Vaishali could avert their ‘early-age marriage’ Early age marriages are still common in villages, especially in the drought affected poor communities. Bhagyashree and Vaishali like the other such unfortunate girls, who’re forced to get married at an early age, would have surrendered to the situation if they weren’t the part of KVP. When they sensed their families forcing them to get married before 18, they straightway sought help from KVP Team. KVP Team intervened and had counseling sessions with the parents and finally was successful in averting the early age marriages. The happy girls now have continued their educations and aspire to be Police Officers!
65
A College Dropout Girl had been re-admitted.
Shital Ashok Kendale – Brijwadi: Shital is an active participant of all KVP activities and she is a student of B.A. 2nd Year. Unfortunately her father passed away, her family was totally dependent on her brother’s income. Shital sensed that she couldn’t continue her education in these adverse situations as there were lots of constraints to do so. She decided to support her family & started to work. Meanwhile our coordinators, Ms. Vandana Kasare & Ms. Sunita came to know about her condition. The Coordinators had many counseling sessions with her and finally could convince her to continue education. Similarly, Pooja Sanjay Solse, Brijwadi was about to leave her education. She’d lost her father in her childhood. Her mother works in a company and wasn’t able to complete her education. KVP Coordinator provided all the school material and financial support too. Mothers thank KVP for talking to the girls on Crucial but Sensitive Topics!
Indu Jadhav of Naregaon; Chandrabhaga Yede of Shindiban are mothers of KVP girls. When they
carefully listened to the counseling sessions at KVP for the girls, they couldn’t resist coming
especially to meet KVP coordinator! They were thanking KVP again and again for all the counseling
KVP does. “I always wished my girl must know these things, but couldn’t talk to her as I didn’t know
everything in detail. Also, I wasn’t very sure I could communicate openly with my girl on the sensitive
issues like ‘good touch-bad touch’ and hygiene during menstrulation”, shared Indu Jadhav.
Another mother wanted to meet the coordinator in person. When she met the coordinator, she seemed
very relieved and happy. “I heard what you were teaching to the girls. You told that it is the husband
who’s responsible for the gender of the kid and not the mother! I had three daughters and always
considered myself guilty for not ‘giving’ a son. Now I’m relieved of that guilt!” The coordinator, on
one hand felt happy for the poor mother but at the other felt the need of extensive counseling for the
gender-bias in her mind! She had further counseling of the lady for that.
The villagers were impressed by KVP Girls’ Initiatives; pledged to support:
On 2nd
October- Gandhi Jayanti, Ganeshpur villagers were surprised to see all the girls in the village
on the road, in the morning cleaning everything! The girls had started the Cleanliness Drive to mark
Gandhi Jayanti. They started requesting the villagers, the youth and even the elderly of the village to
participate. In no time, the entire village was out of house, cleaning roads, school and the temple. The
girls then decorated the important places with beautiful Rangoli.
The villagers were pleasantly surprised with the initiative by the girls and thanked KVP. We too can do it! The Women’s Day Special Empowerment!! Rural girls always have very poor exposure to many things. The tasks like driving a vehicle or operating machine are always considered the exclusive tasks of the ‘male domain’ and even the girls believe that they can’t do it. On this Woman’s Day (8th March) rural KVP decided to break the glass ceiling by teaching the girls at least two tasks, which are traditionally considered the male jobs. They took them to a earthmoving site in Jalna District and taught them to Operate the Earthmover! The village girls couldn’t believe that they can actually operate the huge machine! The simple yet meaningful initiative provided a huge boost to the confidence of the girls. Ms. Nutan Mahajan of Samast mahajan group Mumbai (a non- profit organization) was the special guest for this innovative event. The second training the girls received was ‘Tying the Turbans’! Again, traditionally it is considered as men’s job. The girls shared their happiness with their parents over phone, not even waiting to get back to their villages. Ashwini Vanjare of Karodi shares her experience- “My parents were always skeptical about me attending the Kishori Varga. When I showed them a clip of me confidently operating a JCB (Earthmover), they were more than happy and now they have allowed me to attend the daily classes”
66
Sakshi Kute of Morhira says, “I was afraid initially of the huge machine but soon realized you can do anything if you have confidence! I haven’t even tried a bicycle before this, but today I could run the machine. Nothing is impossible for a girl or a woman!” Honoring the Women Contributors Mukundwadi KVP celebrated Women’s Day with a different activity. They greeted all the woman teachers, officers and social workers in the project area with roses on 8th March visiting their workplaces. They could meet and know about the jobs the women do in during this event. KVP Girls Learned a lot from Mrs. Minakshi Kadam
Exposure Visit of KVP was arranged to Swayamdeep Organization, Chalisgaon. Ms. Minakshi
Kadam, (Founder, Swayamdeep Organization) is the dynamic lady working for Women
Empowerment since many years. Her physical disability couldn’t stop her and she not only has
empowered herself, but have also developed entrepreneurship among hundreds of women! The KVP
girls had a great interaction with her. As their token of appreciation, Milindnagar KVP Girls gifted
44 books to the organization from their own contribution.

1 Krishi Kanya Meetings Four Krishi Kanya meetings were conducted this year. All the volunteers were educated on the Crop Cultivation in this meeting series. 15 Krishi Kanya are trained under the project.
2 Sheti Shala (Agro- Clinics) The Krishi Kanya Team conducts “On- Field Trainings– Sheti Shala“ for women farmers. Which includes:
Soil Sample Collection for Soil Testing: Many farmers weren’t aware about the soil testing before we started the work in this cluster. Krishi Kanya Team reached to 286 women farmers to create awareness on Soil Testing. 98 women farmers did the Soil testing.
Uses of bio-firtilizer by Seed Dressing: No farmer was aware about the Bio-Fertilizer use in the entire 15 villages. Krishi Kanya team played a vital role in this activity. The number of participants has been increased drastically, 283 farmers are now using the technique.
Intigrated Pest Managment on seasnol crop: due to lack of knowledge the farmers used to purchase the costier and inappropriate pesticides right from the first spray. Now many farmers are aware about the use of correct pesticides and using only affordable pesticides only because of the extra efforts taken by the Krishi Kanya! It has approximately saved Rs. 500-600/- in a season. The major result of the activity is, the women farmers can easily indintify the pest and accordingly go for the solutions.
79
Intigreted nutritant management for Seasnol crop. The use of fertilizers was exceeding than the requirement which was directly affecting on crop yield and was also increasing pest attacks. Many farmers are now using the fertilizer as per reccomendation, this has saved the cost of cultivation.
Cultivaton Practices like selection of Varieties, Spacing and Water Management etc.
3 Field Day The team conducts ‘Field Day‘ where the women farmers from the village come together & visit each others farms to observe the crop and the techques used over there. It also includes an Experience Sharing Session at the end of the visit program.
4 Self Help Group Krishi Kanya held meetings of SGH for women farmers and has Re-started 2 old SHGs. The also held some workshops on the same.
5 Training on Organic Farming The Team has conducted 11 Training sessions in the project area. Due to severe draught the number of cattel is readuced in last couple of years due to which the avaiability of organic manure is also reduced dractically! To overcome the problem we conducted demonstrations on Amrut Pani, Jivamrut and S-9 Cluture etc. As a result farmers can make organic manure by using available resources.
6 Fodder Seeds At the same time there was a huge shortage of Fodder which was forcing farmers to sale the cattels. Krishi Kanya Team introduced the Fodders Seeds which has been accepted by the farmers in all the Project villages. The Team purchased 15 Kg Fodder Seeds & distributed it to the needy farmers. The farmers could produce 350 Kg of it. This activity has resolved the problem of the shortage of the Fooder Seeds.
7 Study Tour The team held a three days‘ Study Tour at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nandurbar. 23 women farmers participated to this tour from 11 villages.
8 Kitchen Garden Compitition We have conducted Kitchen Garden Compition in 15 villages wherein 146 farmers enthuciastically participated in it. We had distribute 18 types of seeds to all the
80
participants. Each farmer used the seeds and get enough storage of Vegitables in 40 days. The famers consumed the vegitables for more than 8 months, some of them have sold the extra available stock. This has saved their money to purchase the vegitables from the market. The participants who have enough Water available, they have continued the ‘kitchen Garden‘ technique.
9 Smoke Less Chullah Demonstraion We had organize the ‘Smoke Less Chullah‘ Demonstrations in the project villages 495 farmers had participate in the workshop. 56 Smoke Less Chullahs have been distributed amongst the participants.

D. THE PROJECT HAS MADE A DIFFERENCE!
Organic Manure proving helpful
Aasha Dhondiba Ghait, Hatmali Village, has total 7 acres of agricultural
land with 1 acre plantation of Pomegranate. As she didn’t know the
correct method of Organic Manure Production at her farm, she was using
inappropriate manures and fertilizers, which not only added the input
cost, but the quality of production also was deteriorating.
Participation in Krishi Kanya project’s Organic Manure Training Programs
changed her economics positively. She started making excellent quality
organic manure on her own after the training. In a year, she saved 15000
Rs on fertilizers and the quality of the Pomegranates from her farm also
has significantly improved.
Mukta Gaikwad, Waghola, has successfully adopted the S-9 culture training. Her traditional practices
of using non- specified organic manure has now changed as she has prepared the Manure in a
scientific way. She is using it for Wheat Crop in her farm and has fetched additional price for her
wheat branding it as Organic.
Seed Dressing- Simple but Important Practice, has reduced the input cost, increased production.
Shobha Pawar, Donwada, had never heard about ‘Seed
Dressing’ in her traditional agro practices. More than 15%
of her seed would not germinate every season. Krishi
Kanya had Seed Treatment (Seed Dressing) Training
Programs for women farmers in her village. Shobha, with
other women, learned seed dressing in one of such camps
83
and treated her maize seed before sowing in 2017 season. To her surprise, she observed the
germination rate is much more than every year. At the end of the season she also observed around
10% increase in the production.
Manish Kute of Morhira has her farmland in low-lying area and used to face crop failures due to
water logging. After Seed Dressing as taught by Krishi Kanya, she witnessed a normal crop even after
water logging in her farm.
Kitchen Garden- a Helping Hand for the rural women!
Rohini Gaikwad, Waghola, started cultivation of vegetables in the
backyard of her house. She could grow as much of 14 types of vegetables
with the kit provided by Krishi Kanya. She shares her experiences as “I
never had to buy vegetables for my family from the market throughout
the year!” It also helped the families provide the essential nutrients as
the pulses rates were very high during the year, and the poor farmers
could not buy enough of it.
Kalinda Shirsath of Padli village was new to the concept of Kitchen
Garden. She tried developing one after Krishi Kanya Project provided the
Kitchen Garden Kit with the technical know- how. She got a success as her
annual needs for vegetables were met through the garden and she never had to buy vegetables
making some good cash-savings for her. It only took a few weeks to replicate the experiment in her
neighbourhood. Today, 23 women from Padali have developed their own kitchen gardens and Kalinda
guiding them!
“Fodder Crops- It was needed but we didn’t know about it””
Gayabai Ghait of Hatmali- “We always felt the need of feeding
green fodder to our livestock and would find it difficult to get it
after the rainy season. Krishi Kanya project taught me the
technique to grow fodder crops in a small corner of farm with
whatever water was available with us. I could provide my cattle
the much needed green fodder in the non- season months which
has resulted in to better milk production and improved livestock
health. Initially Krishi Kanya Project helped us with the seed but
soon I started cultivating on my own as this is an important thing for me!”
Shubhrada Shelke of Padali has large number of cattle and used to spend a heavy amount on
purchasing green fodder every year. With Krishi Kanya Training, she started growing fodder crop-
initially on a small scale. Soon she realized this has saved around 5000 Rs. for her. She now grows all
the green fodder required for her cattle. Additionally, she has started production and selling of the
seed of the fodder crop to the women farmers at a rate of Rs. 100 per Kg in the village, which has
added to her income.

Knowledge is important!
Meera Chandrabhan Pathade of Borwadi would do all the farm
work, as most of the rural women do; but never had a say in
agro- inputs for her farm. Krishi Kanya specifically works with
women farmers like Meera and empowers them with technical
knowledge on the soil type of their farms, the fertilizers and
pesticides needed.
The training is proving important to all, as it was in the case of
Meera. For the first time this year, she asked her husband what
he’s going to purchase for her crops. She also suggested him purchasing the pesticides suggested by
Krishi Kanya. He was surprised but while at the shop, he called Meera and told her the shopkeeper
wants him to purchase a different pesticide- a costlier one. Meera called Krishi Kanya Team at the
very instance and confirmed that the pesticide suggested by the shopkeeper is unnecessary, and the
initially suggested one is appropriate. She called back to her husband and insisted he avoid the shop
and purchases the pesticide as suggested by Krishi Kanya from the other shop.
He followed the advice to save over 350 Rs for a total purchase of Rs. 2000. He acknowledged
Meera’s newly imparted knowledge and thanked Krishi Kanya.
Smokeless Chulla- a meaningful intervention
Generations together, rural women using traditional earthen cooking stoves (Chulhas) which are not
fuel efficient and cause health hazards due to the heavy smoke. Krishi Kanya has introduced Modified
Smokeless Chulha for the first time this year (2017). The demonstrations went well, but the team was
not very sure for the adoption by the rural women. But they could sell 58 smokeless Chulhas on a
subsidized cost.
Sunita Shirsath and Kalinda Shirsath of Padali village were the first to start using Smokeless Chullas in
the village. “It is saving the cooking time significantly. Also, the fuel cost is low as compared to our
traditional Chulhas. More importantly, we could avoid the smoke which always troubled our eyes
with this!” Very soon 37 women of the village followed them and have purchased Smokeless Chulhas.
“Thanks Krishi Kanya- You’ve saved me from the pain!”
In the villages where they didn’t have the tap water
facilities or the hand pump conveniently located, the
women have to face a lot of trouble to fetch the water
from a distance. Traditionally, the women have the
responsibility of fetching water at home. In villages like
Donwada Tanda, where they’ve to fetch water from a
distance of 2.5 Kms, it always was a painful thing for the
women. They had persistent health problems due to this
hectic job.
85
While working in these villages, Krishi Kanya Team always felt the need of finding a solution to this
tragic reality of the women. We could find the solution when we came across “Water Wheel”
specially designed for women who bear all the pain to fetch water from a distance. The rolling Drum
with a capacity of 45 Litres is a gift for the women from the parched villages. Krishi Kanya Team
requested the organization to purchase these much needed innovative Water Wheels. With a special
support from a few donors, the organization could purchase and provide 75 water wheels to the
villages.
In Donwada Tanda, the most needed village, every woman now uses water wheel and fetches more
water than earlier without bearing the burden of carrying heavy containers on their head or back.
They easily roll the water filled wheels and never stop thanking Krishi Kanya Team for saving them
from the pain!
Bachat Bazar- Adding Income and Confidence!
There is always a high
demand of the rural agro
products, especially the
organic ones in the city
markets. The city people want
to purchase directly from the
farmers but there is no
formidable platform for direct
selling and buying is available.
On the other hand, the farmer women don’t have access to such markets without middlemen. Sensing the
need, Krishi Kanya has tried to provide such platform in the form of Bachat Bazar, in which, women in project
86
villages could directly sell the agro products to the urban customers. Last year, 85 women could sell their
products worth over 3 Lakh Rs.
The women groups are finding newer products as the market demands. Lata Raut of Donwada had an inter-
crop of Celery Seed and was expecting to sell it to the local vendors for Rs. 60 per Kg. With Bachat Bazar, she
got Rs. 100/ Kg rate for her 35 Kg production of celery seed. Sunita Shirsath of Padali could sell her Kesar
Mangoes through Bachat Bazar and earn 12500 Rs even without leaving her village!
