Wilderness Classroom’s current reach is 100,000 elementary and middle school students, and 3,200 teachers around the world. www.savetheboundarywaters.org/WildernessYear About A Year in the Wilderness On September 23, Dave and Amy Freeman will embark on a 365-day adventure in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in support of the Campaign to Save the Boundary Waters’ efforts to protect the area from proposed sulfide-ore copper mining on the Wilderness edge. e two will travel more than 3,000 miles by canoe and dog team as they explore more than 500 lakes and streams throughout the year. e journey will begin on the fall equinox, on the edge of the Boundary Waters in Ely, Minnesota, and conclude along the proposed sulfide-ore copper mining’s path of pollution through the Boundary Waters and Voyageurs National Park. e Campaign to Save the Boundary Waters was founded in the spring of 2013 by local residents in Ely, Minnesota, and has grown into a national coalition of nonprofit organizations and allies committed to the goal of permanently protecting the Boundary Waters from proposed sulfide-ore copper mining on its wilderness edge.
