Chapter 2013 Annual Report
DESCRIPTION OF THE CHAPTER:
The Saudi Arabian International Chemical Sciences
chapter (SAICSC) was founded in 1988, the chapter is a
dynamic organization which has excelled in the fostering
of chemical sciences within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The society has grown and now enjoys having some of the
best minds in the world of chemical sciences as members,
this also allows for excellent networking opportunities.
The society is keen to promote discussion within this
network which in turn leads to greater accomplishments.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
The society successfully organized the 9th
International CHEMISTRY IN INDUSTRY
(CHEMINDIX 2013) Conference & Exhibition in the
Kingdom of Bahrain under the theme “Energy
Transformation: Feasibility to Sustainability”. The
conference was a resounding success which was well
attended by luminaries from around the globe,
including 20 keynote speakers, with more than 160
presentations. It allowed for new innovations to be
showcased, whilst provided a platform for scholarly
discussion regarding challenges face in the current
world.

The society with coordination with ACS
representatives arranged a booth at the Chemindix
The society celebrated its 25th anniversary on Dec 30,
2013 and produced a Documentary Film for this

SAICSC-ACS continued enhancing the society
website (www.saicsc-acs.com) to improve the
communication and collaboration between the
society’s members and Board of Directors. A new
website content management was developed to make
sure that all contents up to date.
The society won the ACS 2013 Global Innovation
Award
Launched out of the box Outreach Program for young
students in Saudi Arabia. Students were invited to
the Saudi Aramco Research and Development Centre
in Dhahran

Participated in the historic 1st International
Chemical Sciences Chapter Summit, September 12-
13, 2013. For the first time chapter representatives
from Shanghai, Saudi Arabia, Romania, Hong Kong,
Thailand, and Hungary got together in the same
place to discuss their plans and activities to further
enhance collaboration within the field
Published two newsletters (ORGANON) which
covered recent events, new innovations and topical
discussions
Out of Kingdom trip: One of our main activities and
as an appreciation to our active members, we
arranged a trip to Dubai, which also aimed to
improve chemical sciences awareness among children

The society arranged for the society’s 2014 election

MONTHLY TECHNICAL MEETINGS
During 2013 nine technical meetings were arranged with
distinguished speakers from varying disciplines. An
average of 160 members attended each meeting.
January: Energy Efficiency in Saudi Arabia.

Kingdom

society’s 25th anniversary.

Membership Program
The society achievements at local and international levels
have attracted more professionals to join the society
where 25 new members joined the mother society (ACS)
and 35 members joined our local chapter. Voluntarism
was encouraged to help the committee members during
the registration for the dinner meetings . The society used
for the first time SMS for the announcement and
registration for the dinner meetings.
Appreciation Letters
Several appreciation letters were received from different
industrial and academic sectors and from ACS President,
Dr. Marinda Wu . Dr. Marinda highlighting her excellent
impression and her admiration of what has been achieved
during the conference (2013 CHMINDIX) days and the
society efforts toward promoting the advancement of the
chemical sciences within Saudi Aramco through
organizing conferences, technical exchange meetings and
outreach programs.

OTHER:
The society sponsored all chemistry related seminars
during the year and Iftar Party during the Holy Month of
Ramadan at King Fahad University of Petroleum and
Mineral (KFUPM). This provided an ideal opportunity for
upcoming scientists to engage in intellectual conversation
with professionals from Saudi Aramco.

Our plan during 2014 will be as follows:
1- Conduct 8 technical meetings
2- Arrange for two school visits to the Saudi Aramco
Research and Development Center
3- Arrange two trips (IK and OOK)
