“To Stop Alcohol Use”

Introduction: Bharti Foundation–

• Philanthropic arm of Bharti Group Companies.• Set up to help underprivileged children and young people of our country to

realize their potential.

Satya Bharti School Program–

• Flagship program of Bharti Foundation.• It aims to deliver free quality education to underprivileged children, with

special focus on the girl child across rural India.• Goal to establish 500 Primary and 50 Senior Schools reaching out to over

200,000 students.

Present Operational Status–

• Number of Schools Operational:250• States of Operation: Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu &

West Bengal • Number of Students Enrolled: Over 36,000

Geographical Location:

Babroli village, situated at 30 kms from district headquarter

Rewari.

Sandy & gravel soil.

Socio- Economic Background:

Major casts are : Jat, Meghwal, Brahman, Valmiki, Baniya, etc.

Dominating castes : Jat

Main source of earning is agriculture, animal husbandry, labor,

service, etc.

Population : 1900

Literacy Rate: 52.5 %

Sex Ratio: 911

About the Community:

Due to Alcohol Addiction, following problem occurs:

• Violence in the family.

• Lot of money invested on alcohol addiction, which adversely

effects over all economic condition of the family.

• Addicted member of the family loose their accountability

towards family.

• Loose respect in the family, relatives & society as a whole.

• It results in many health problem.

• Safety risk in the society.

• It promoted un employment in the society.

• Cases of thefts & teasing are increasing day by day.

• Adversely effect coming generation of our village. Adults always

followed senior members of the family/ village.

We felt:

•Our Village is alcohol free. No one use alcohol in the village & no alcohol shop will be their in the village area.

•Our village will be one of the prosperous, highly educated, well being, violence free village of the country.

•Every one accountable for their family, village & society as a whole.

•Village will safe for every one- no theft, no tease, no use of bad language, etc. will be their in the village.

We Imagine:

“Happy, healthy & wealthy community members always creates a good family, village & nation as a whole- we imagine villagers

of the Babroli village is the first step of this ladder.”

We Did:

“ We take written oath from the sarpanch/ Ward panch & other members of the community.”

•We display posters/ banners with appealing slogans on stopping use of alcohol.•Rally in all the ways of the village.•Individual counseling of the village.•Organize corner play in chaupal of the village.

Impact on Community:

Community member realizes that due to heavy use of alcohol in the village, family head forget their responsibilities or accountability for family/ village.

Sarpanch take oath that “he never used to drink alcohol and avoid

company of the drunker.”

Students aware of hazardous effect of drinking alcohol.

Improvement in the leadership quality of the student.

Students start initiating on “awareness of social evil” in the community.

Impact on Us:

“Students get Motivated & appreciated” -by Elected Representative & community

members.

•Quarterly rally in the village.

•Poster displaying at common places of the village.

•One to one counseling of community member who used to drink alcohol.

•Follow up of those community member who take oath during the rally.
