SATURN By: Helen, Alena, Meredith, & Macayla
Slide 3
SATURNS NAME Saturn is named after Saturnus the roman god of
capitol, generation, dissolution, plenty, wealth, agriculture,
periodic renewal, liberation, and time. Saturday is named after
Saturn.
Slide 4
ABOUT SATURN: Its the second biggest planet in our solar system
and a gas GIANT. Saturn is the 6 th planet from the sun. It was
discovered by Galileo in 1610. Summer on Saturn lasts 8 years
(91Earth years!) Saturn is so light that it could actually float on
water and the only planet able to do so.

THE FACTS Mass: 568.3E24 kg (95.16 x Earths
mass)(568,319,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 kg) Radius: 36,184 miles
(58,232 km) Distance from the Sun: 890,700,000 miles (1,433,000,000
km) Surface Area: 16.49 billion sq. miles (42.7 billion km) Length
of day: 10h 39m
Slide 6
WHAT IS SATURN ? Saturn is mostly made up of helium and
hydrogen with traces of methane, ammonia, and water. Saturn doesnt
have the same crust, mantle, and core makeup that Earth and other
rock planets have. The atmosphere bleeds into Saturns surface
without much distinction.
Slide 7
THE JEWEL OF THE SOLAR SYSTEM Saturn is nicknamed The Jewel of
the Solar System. God must have liked it because he put a ring on
itor several.
Slide 8
SATURNS RINGS You can see Saturns rings at different angles
depending on the orbit patterns of Earth and Saturn and because of
Saturns 29 degree tilt. February October Saturns rings arent solid,
but made up of bits of ice, rock, and dust from passing comets,
meteorite impacts on Saturns moons, and the planets gravity pulling
material from the moons.
Slide 9
MOONS Saturns moons are very diverse and can range from tiny
moonlets 1kilometer in diameter to ones bigger than Mercury. Saturn
has 162 moons, 62 with confirmed orbits, 53 of which have names,
and only 13 of which have diameters larger than 50 kilometers.
Slide 10
TITAN Titan was discovered by Christiaan Huygens in 1655. Titan
was the first of Saturns moons to be discovered.
Slide 11
RHEA Rhea was discovered by Giovanni Domenico Cassini in 1672.
Rhea is named after the Titan Rhea from Greek Mythology.
Slide 12
ENCELADUS Enceladus is one of Saturns moons that are believed
to be able to support life! It was discovered in 1789 by William
Herschel. While doing an flyby in 2006 Cassini found evidence of
water reservoirs that erupt in geysers on Saturns moon
Enceladus.
