WELCOMEWelcome to the Southern Great Barrier Reef for the 2016
Childers Festival – part of our vibrant calendar of events that
makes Queensland the best address on earth.
Experiences are at the core of any destination event and I hope
you come away from the Childers Festival with some amazing
Queensland memories.
Events play an important role in showcasing a destination,
driving visitation, fostering community pride and creating jobs for
the local community.
The Palaszczuk Government recognises that events drive
Queensland’s tourism economy and we are proud to support this event
through Tourism and Events Queensland’s Destination Events
Program.
Thank you to the event organisers, volunteers, and those who
have come together to deliver the Childers Festival for Queensland,
and I encourage you to make the most of the tourism offerings
throughout the destination.
The Hon Kate Jones MP Minister for Tourism and Major Events
MAYOR’S MESSAGEI know I speak for residents right across our
beautiful region when I express the immense sense of pride I feel
each time I attend the Childers Festival.
What unfolds on the streets of Childers during this magnificent
festival provides a window to what comprises the very essence of
the community of the Bundaberg Region.
We enjoy the venue, the weather, the entertainment and the
opportunity to share with others everything that is unique to our
region.
The Childers Festival has firmly entrenched itself as one of the
premier events not only in our region, but across the whole of the
state.
Now in its 21st year, the Childers Festival continues to unlock
the secret to what makes a great community occasion. An event that
engages everyone.
Where else can you walk the national highway framed by historic
buildings while music floats around the festival site tantalised by
the aroma of food from a score of nations around the world?
Every year there is something fresh, something exciting,
something that adds to the magic of this event. Hundreds of
stallholders also boost the enjoyment of the day for those who love
to browse quality street stalls.
Events such as Opera by the Lake; the Isis Central Sugar Mill
& Cane Fire Tour and Historic Coach Tours are initiatives of
the Friends of the Festival, a Childers group that continues to
have valuable input into the festival program.
I must congratulate the team at Pilotlight Productions for the
effort that has gone into creating a musical to be included in the
festival week program.
Please accept my personal invitation to join with the thousands
who attend this benchmark festival each year. You certainly will
not be disappointed.
May I acknowledge and express my sincere thanks to the many
regional businesses who come forward each year to financially
support this event.
See you at the Childers Festival!
Jack Dempsey Mayor - Bundaberg Regional Council
