• Feed DirecTv cable through mailslot.

1

Page 2: Satellite setup

Protection against drunks• Tie off DirecTv cable to railing after

pulling relatively tight from mailslot.

• Make a bight in the cable underneath rail, then pull running end of cable through bight.

• This will keep drunks sitting on porch from accidentally pulling dish down if they get caught up in the cable.

2

Page 3: Satellite setup

Roof Access• Set up ladder to get on roof.

• Get Templeton to foot ladder while you are climbing and getting down.

3

Page 4: Satellite setup

Satellite Dish and Cables• Blue tote on back porch has the broken

down dish inside, along with grey cable that you may need for adjusting the dish.

• Take the whole tote up to the roof and leave it there until you are ready to break down at the end of the night.

• If you haven’t already taken DirecTv cable up to roof, do it now.

4

Page 5: Satellite setup

Protection against drunks• Us the cinderblock to tie off DirecTv

cable.

• This should help to keep drunks from pulling over dish if they get caught up in the cable.

• Don’t put the cinderblock too close to the edge of the roof, as we don’t really want to brain anyone.

• Note: grey cable used as example in pic, but you will want to tie off the black cable running up from the ground.

Dish Location• The spot where you will set up the tripod

for the dish is marked in black paint on the roof.

• Each leg of the tripod will go on the points of the triangle.

6

Page 7: Satellite setup

Tripod Location• Legs of tripod should match up with

points of triangle.

• North seeking arrow on tripod needs to be pointed towards water tower.

• Note: picture taken before triangle was painted in.

7

Page 8: Satellite setup

Tripod Compass• Compass on the tripod doesn’t really

matter. Other than the fact that you are going to need to make sure that the north seeking arrow points towards the water tower.

Tripod Set-up (cont)• Insert post into tripod base.

• Single hash mark on post matches up with single hash mark on base. This will allow you to get proper direction for pointing dish

10

Page 11: Satellite setup

Dish Set-up• Satellite arm is screwed onto back of dish.

• You will need to remove nut in order to take arm off back of dish

11

Page 12: Satellite setup

Keep your parts• After you remove satellite arm from back

of dish, replace the washer and nut.

• This will keep you from losing the nut which you will need when you go to breakdown and pack up at the end of the night.

12

Page 13: Satellite setup

Dish assembly• Assemble satellite arm and dish.

• The satellite arm will ride on the two bolts the traverse the channel at the bottom of the dish.

• Tighten thumbscrews until snug, but do not overtighten. You will see that I have had to reinforce the satellite arm where it rides in the channel.

• Pull cable tight so that satellite head rides inside of arm.

13

Page 14: Satellite setup

Tripod assembly• Place dish assembly on top of tripod post.

• Double hash mark on dish needs to line up with double hash mark on post.

• This will make sure that dish is pointing in the right direction

• Don’t mess with the elevation knob. It is set for the correct elevation. 53 degrees.

14

Page 15: Satellite setup

Levelling• Adjust tripod legs until bubble is centered

up in middle circle.

• Doesn’t need to be perfect. Close is usually good enough.

15

Page 16: Satellite setup

Cable hook-up• Attach black DirecTv Cable to the

connector running out of dish.

• Note: I know the picture has two grey cables. Trust me. Use the black one running up from the ground.

• You are now ready to go inside and check your set up.

Time to go downstairs

17

Page 18: Satellite setup

TV hook-up• Remove TV cable from back of TV over

right side cooler, and turn to Ch 3.

• Run cable from back of DirecTv box into coax connector on TV.

• Turn power on DirecTv box.

• If you have done everything correct, you should have DirecTv.

• You may need to call DirecTv to get a refresh if the box has been off line. Directions will be on the screen.

• After completing setup run cable back into tv and wait til you need to switch back over for game. (see slide 22)

18

Set-up failed• You probably made a mistake setting up

dish. It happens to the best of us.

• Easiest and quickest way to fix is to drag the front porch tv, the DirecTv box and power up to the roof.

19

Page 20: Satellite setup

Set up TV on Roof• After you have drug all that stuff up to

the roof, and are now good and pissed, use the grey cable in the tote to hook the dish up to your rooftop TV.

• Grey cable runs from dish to DirecTv Box (satellite in) then run cable out to TV, well out to the TV.

• Once your cables are set up power up the TV and the DirecTv box.

Getting to the pinger

• After powering back up, you are going to hit the Menu button which will bring up the on-screen guide.

• Scroll down to parental favs & setup & hit select button.

• Scroll down to system setup & hit select.

• Scroll down to satellite & hit select.

• Hit select again to view satellite strength.

• You will probably be getting a bunch of N/As or 0s. Scroll down to signal meter & hit select.

• This will give you an audible pinger. Make adjustments to satellite until pings are close together in time.

• Once you have a good signal, hit done on each screen as you scroll out.

• Hook black cable back up to dish and head downstairs

GAME TIME• Pull cable in from RF Input on the

amplifier box. It is the one black cable.

With DirecTv box hooked back up downstairs, if you needed to take it up to the roof for adjustments, run the out to TV line in to the RF Input connector.

GametimeAfter running the DirecTv Box to the Amplifier, turn all of the TVs to channel 3 and you are good to go!
