OUR STEWARDSHIP - THANK YOU!
Joy to the World - Gaudete
Today, the third Sunday of Advent is called ‘Gaudete Sunday’ which means ‘Joy’ or Rejoice’. The opening antiphon for today’s liturgy asks us to Rejoice is the Lord always; again I
say rejoice. Indeed the Lord is
near. Today, on our Advent Wreath we light our pink candle to mark this day of joy.
Joy is the central message of our readings and prayers this Sunday, and maybe even for all of Ad-vent and the celebration of Christ’s birth! One of the most well-known Christmas carols is ‘Joy to world’, written by Isaac Watts in 1719. At Christ-mas it will be sung all over the world. The music for it actually comes from Handel’s ‘Messiah.’
The first words that Mary hears when she is told that she is going to be the mother of Jesus are, ‘Rejoice, so highly favoured.’ Mary will be filled with joy because God has called her by her name and her son will be the long awaited Messiah. Also, when the angels appeared to the shepherds they heard this joyful message, ‘Do not be afraid, I
bring you news of great joy.’ Today at Mass, let’s pray that it continues to be good news of joy for each of us today.
Congratulations!
St. Mary Magdalen raised the 2ND
largest amount of money for a church parish, just shy of $20,000. We thank all of you for helping us. And Fr. Louie and Fr. Don had fun with the water-balloon fight! These funds will
go into our savings to help with next year’s MAJOR WATERPROOFING of the Church exterior, estimated to cost perhaps $400,000. Or more.

Christmas office hours Our office will be remain open to receive any gifts (financial, Christmas baking, or other) until Dec 24TH at Noon. The office reopens Dec. 27 @ 8AM.
IRA Charitable Deduction If you’re over the age of 70.5, you’re required by law to take an annual distribution from your qualified retirement account. That distribution will be subject to income tax. You can avoid paying that tax by making a qualified charitable distribution straight from your account to St. Mary Magdalen. Contact Monica DeRouen, our bookkeeper, 893-0244 or [email protected] to learn more.
Did we mention how much we appreciate you?
Because we really do. Your gifts help our parish to live out the call of Jesus by caring for the poor and needy and ministering to those who are suffering. Your gifts also help us do practical things like keep the church clean, mow the lawn in the summer and pay our staff.
You can donate online, right up until the ball drops!
The Internet isn’t just for sharing cute pictures of cats and grandkids anymore. Now, you can make a donation online at stmarymagdalenparish.org/donate . You can donate right up until 11:59pm on December 31 and have it applied to your 2019 tax year.
Wishing you and your family a joyful Christmas filled with God’s Peace
With Love and Gratitude,
