SAPTEK® DRY KILN OPTIMIZERThe Saptek® Drying Optimizer provides
a completely automatic method of sorting lumber into two groups
based on moisture content. The overall results mean more uniform
packages in terms of drying characteristics. Therefore, kilns will
be easier to operate and moisture content after drying will be more
uniform.
• Drying sorting accuracy above 96%
• More uniform species sorting
• Reduction in lumber downgrading
• Kilns are easier to operate (more uniform drying time and
moisture content after drying)

The Saptek® Drying Optimizer utilizes an alcohol-based chemical
reagent that is sprayed on the end of the lumber. A vision system
analyzes the color of the chemical reaction to determine whether
the piece of lumber belongs to the group requiring longer drying
time (r) or the group requiring shorter drying time (spruce and
pine).

SAPTEK® DRY KILN OPTIMIZER
VALUE THROUGH TECHNOLOGY, QUALITY & CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE
FEATURES:
• The Saptek® Dry Kiln Optimizer sorts the lumber to ease the
drying process of the boards
• The system is installed right after the trimmer (in order to
get fresh cuts) and communicates with the bin sorter
• An alcohol-based liquid is sprayed at the end of the board
requiring sorting
• This liquid will change color based on the pH level of the
board:
- Blue for fir - Yellow–green for spruce and pine
• A color camera takes a picture of the end of the board
• A computer analyzes the picture and sends the result to the
bin sorter
FEATURES OF THE NEW DESIGN:
• The color of the complete section of the board is analyzed
instead of one single line
• The L.E.D. lighting system is stable and offers extra-long
life
• Species separation is now based on the actual color and not on
the intensity
• User interface is fully integrated into the product and
installed in the field
• Parameter banks can be used to ease transition when seasons
change
• Simulation is possible
• Easy visualization of the decision process
