Hello lovely Key Clubbers!
Welcome to another WONDERFUL Key Club year! My name is
Kaila Mattera and I am so pleased and honored that I have the
pleasure of serving all of you as your 2013-2014 Key Club president.
From now until April of next year, I hope I will get to know all of you
better and that we may all get to know one another as we bond
through service to our community. Ever since I was a freshman, my Key
Club experience has been an unbelievable journey and something
that I will never forget, and I hope that this year the board and I can
work hard so that you may have your own equally amazing Key Club
experience.
Like many other new Key Club presidents, I have set a few
goals to allow our club to improve and grow: $300 for Pediatric Trauma
Program, 2000+ service hours, at least 55% member attendance at
weekly meetings, two awards at District Convention 2014, and placing
in the top 3 clubs within the division. Our club is already strong, and I
know that together we can definitely reach these goals, surpass them,
and become stronger because of them. I have confidence that this
year, we can unite Santa Susana Key Club and become one big
“ohana.”
Surfing in Service,
Kaila Mattera

Round Up: April 20, 2013
Going to Round Up was one of the coolest experiences! I
volunteered for 9 ½ hours with some of my fellow club members, and
my sister. We shuttled up to Humming Bird Ranch around 8 in the
morning, and began setting up our club’s booth, where kids could
get temporary tattoos and make cards to send to the troops. My first
shift there flew by, and next I knew, I was acting as a bus greeter,
helping people on and off the busses that transported guests to and
from the ranch. I was given a script to read to the passengers,
informing them on basic facts about the ranch, and the property the
event was being held at. Although the lack of air conditioning and
the overdose of heat were going strong, the day was a job well
done. I finished my shifts, and spent the remainder of my time
listening to some nice, live country music while eating kettle corn.
The headliner put on an entertaining show, and the venue was
beautiful. I hope to volunteer at Round Up again next year!
