Above is a list of some exciting opportunities coming up for our older members. Read through the descriptions carefully and choose the ones you may be interested in. Each description includes how to apply or get information (specifics vary). Deadlines also vary, so please read carefully. Deadlines are not negotiable. *Some opportunities (Scholarships, State Awards, 4-H Ambassador) require applications which must be downloaded, completed online, or picked up at the Extension Office. Dont miss out on these great opportunities! Gwen Soule Extension Educator, 4-H Youth Development Up to 12 boys and 18 girls will be selected as counselors. Please note that camp counselors and CITs are selected based on their abilities and experiences, not just on age. No one is guaranteed, at any age, to be selected as a counselor/CIT. The counselor team works together to develop the camp theme and programs. At camp, counselors are responsible for supervising their cabin of campers, working with co-ed color groups, and leading camp activities. The benefits of being a Camp Counselor: Opportunity to make a difference for younger 4-H members Fun, interactive training sessions with other teens Building your resume by adding leadership, communication, and workforce development skills Time spent counts as community service hours for school & scholarship requirements Requirements: Minimum Age (by first day of camp): CITs: At least 14 year old and in at least 8th grade. Preference given to age 15+ Counselors: At least 16 years of age Full-time participation from Friday though Tuesday, Counselors cannot come late or leave early except in case of extreme emergency Ability to participation in training prior to camp (January - June, generally twice a month) The selection team looks for: A high level of maturity, responsibility, and dependability. Desire and ability to work with campers (3rd-7th grade) & other counselors/CITs Previous leadership experience preferred (club officers, Cloverbud Teen Leader, etc.) Camp Counselor Applications are due by January 7, 2019 (form found online) Camp Counselor - Junior Camp (Ages 14 & older) June 21-25, 2019 CARTEENS is a driver safety program run by teen volunteers, with the assistance of adult advisors. Teen volunteers lead hands-on & interactive stations which address specific driving behaviors such as speeding, texting and other driving distractions, seat belt use, driving while under the influence, and Ohio Traffic Laws. Benefits: Building your resume by adding leadership and teaching skills Time spent counts as community service for school & scholarship requirements Gas Cards - At each training, one teen volunteer is selected to receive a $20 gas card Requirements: Age 15 and older who have at least their drivers permit Responsible, reliable and able to keep information confidential Interest Forms (form found online) are accepted until all positions are filled. Gwen Soule Extension Educator, 4-H Youth Development

Up to two members will be selected for this once in a lifetime opportunity. Travel to Washington D.C. and lodging at the National 4-H Center are included in the program fee. The county 4-H advisory committee sponsors 80% of the cost, making your fee

for this trip only about $300.

Join other teens form around the state, providing leadership programming, assisting with State Fair and other events, and providing teen-relevant input to state 4-H leaders.

Citizenship-Washington Focus – (Ages 16 & older) June 16-22, 2019

This camp is hosted by Canter’s Cave 4-H Camp. To attend you have to be enrolled in at least one

Shooting Sports project. The camper gets to select a discipline where they will spend most of their time learning new techniques, seeing demonstrations and listening to speakers. The campers may also try new disciplines while at camp. There are also team building activities, a high

ropes course, canoeing and fishing. Your cost would be $25-$65.

Have you ever wondered what types of trees are in Ohio's forests? Or what kinds of relationships organisms have with the forest? If so, Camp Canopy is the place to be! Camp is held at

FFA Camp Muskingum, located in Carroll County, Ohio.

The county 4-H advisory committee sponsors 80% of the cost, making your fee for this trip only about $80.

Junior Fair Board (Ages 14 & older)

Members assist with planning and leading events at the county fair. Youth must be at least 14 years old to apply.

You do not need to take livestock projects to participate. For more information contact the Jr. Fair Coordinator at,

Ohio 4-H Conference (Ages 13 & older) March 9, 2019

Join hundreds of teens and volunteers from across Ohio at this fun day in Columbus. Choose from over 50 different sessions on a variety of topics such as: 4-H project areas, club & camp ideas, games,

choosing a college and more. Our 4-H Committee will offset the cost of up to 10 teens.

**Camp counselors can earn some of their required training hours through this event.

Leadership Camp (Ages 14 & older) June 1-5, 2019

This camp is packed with fun, interactive sessions and activities! It is held at 4-H Camp Ohio near Utica, Ohio. Members have always returned with great comments about this camp.

**2 scholarships will be given by Farm Credit and Nationwide Insurance. **

Your cost to attend is only $25!

Ohio 4-H Achievement Awards & Opportunities Shooting Sports Camp (Ages 13-18) July 14-19, 2019

Three county based scholarships are available to 4-H members planning to attend a tech school, college, or university in fall 2019. Amounts vary from $250 to $1000 each.

You do not need to attend OSU to apply for scholarships.

Scholarships must be typed into the application, which is available online. Applications also require a high school transcript (unofficial is okay) and a letter of reference.

Forms are available online (http://sandusky.osu.edu) or at the Ext Office Scholarship applications due to the Extension Office by April 2, 2019

Scholarships - County (must be Sr. in high school)

Several scholarships are available to 4-H members, who are high school seniors and are planning to attend a tech school, college, or university in fall 2019. You do not need to attend OSU to apply for scholarships. Many scholarships are good at any school. Scholarships must be submitted online.

Information is available online at http://www.ohio4h.org/awardsandscholarships Applications must be submitted directly to Ohio 4-H online, deadlines vary.

Scholarships - State (must be Sr. in high school)

There are a number of state awards given each year in the areas of: Beef, Citizenship & Community Service, Clothing & Textiles, Dairy, Dairy Goat, Environmental Sciences, Family Life , Foods & Nutrition, Gardening & Horticulture, Health & Safety, Horse, Leadership, Mechanical & Engineering Sciences, Rabbits, Personal Development, Poultry, Sheep, Swine, and Vet.Science.

Forms are available online at http://www.ohio4h.org/awardsandscholarships All Applications are Due to the Ext Office by January 7, 2019.

(They must be reviewed before being submitted to the state office)

County 4-H Teen Council (Ages 13 & older)

Help us create the 4-H of tomorrow by serving on the new 4-H Teen Council in Sandusky County. Members will provide input about and assist with county-based programming, develop and facilitate

programming for teens and younger members, and enjoy fun, social time with others. We would love to have our first group of teens help create the structure for this group so other details are still flexible.

*One or two adult volunteers will also be sought to help work with this group.*
