Sanctuary Chobe Chilwero borders the Chobe National Park, which is the second largest national park in Botswana covering an area of 10,566 km² and home to Africa’s largest concentration of elephants.

Getting there

The lodge is accessible by road and air. Kasane International Airport is approximately 10 minutes away by road. Sanctuary Chobe Chilwero’s preferred air charter company, Mack Air, offers an excellent service linking our properties in the Okavango Delta (approximately 1 hour 30 minutes flight).

Accommodation and facilities

Each of Sanctuary Chobe Chilwero’s thatched cottages measures 61 square metres and has its own en-suite bathroom with a bath, indoor and outdoor showers, private garden with hammock, private balcony, mosquito nets, ceiling fans, air conditioning, hairdryer, minibar and in-room safe. The honeymoon suite also features a private plunge pool, a private deck where guests will be able to enjoy private dinners for two under the stars (weather permitting) and special turn downs every night. Guests booking this room will automatically receive a private vehicle and guide for all game viewing activities.

Overview

Sanctuary Chobe Chilwero borders Chobe National Park. Located on a hill above the Chobe River, the lodge offers unparalleled panoramic views across the islands and flood plains as far as Namibia.

Accommodation is in 14 air conditioned cottages and one honeymoon suite; and the main public area includes a lounge and dining room, which are linked to outdoor viewing patios. Sanctuary Chobe Chilwero also boasts a full spa.

Climate and clothing

The wet season normally begins late December and lasts through early March. This season has hot sunny days with afternoon thundershowers. Average daily temperatures range from 20°C- 38°C.

The dry season runs from late May to early October. In winter (June–August) temperatures can fall as low as 0°C at night with a daily maximum of around 26°C-28°C Clothing should be cool and comfortable.

Jerseys and heavier jackets are required for winter mornings and evenings. Muted colours are the most suitable on safari. It is advisable to wear long sleeves and long trousers in mornings and evenings. Sturdy and comfortable shoes are essential.

Children

We welcome children of all ages at Sanctuary Chobe Chilwero. Children aged 5 years and under are able to enjoy game drives in the National Park, if a private vehicle is requested. We will be happy to help with these arrangements.

Game drives

Highly qualified professional guides lead thrilling twice daily game drives in open-sided 4X4 vehicles in the morning and evening.

Motorised boat safaris and Sundowner cruise

Explore the Chobe River in our specially adapted safari motorboats. Enjoy a Sundowner cruise in the evening with your choice of refreshing drink.

We advise all travellers to take precautions against malaria and we recommend speaking with your GP or personal physician four to six weeks before departure.

Sunscreen, sunglasses and hats are essential. The lodge provides a torch as well as complimentary mosquito repellant and toiletries. A limited range of camera film, memory cards and batteries are stocked in the curio shop.
