Expanding Fundraising Capabilities by Creating New Events
• JA Specific Fundraising – Jefferson Awards Concession Food Sales – Fund JA t-shirts for JA Community Service All Stars
• New Student Led Fundraising: – Invisible Children (Oct: $2,000) – One Dollar For Life (March 2010)– Project Haiti -“American Red Cross” ($700)
–Talent Show (March 2009: $2,000 for Vitamin Angels)–Canned Food Drive (Dec. $53,000)–Senior Class Council ($8,000 in July - Dec) –Pennies for Mills Hospital (Spring 2009: $1,000 all coins) –Blood Drive (on campus, Feb 2010)

Increased visibility of Service Projects in the Community
• Press Coverage of Service Project: – Bay Area network covered CVS, Second Harvest and San Mateo High Schools food drive– Coverage of Food Drive in local papers – Created and distributed Press Release about Food Drive

6. Growth and Expansion of SIA
• Expanding – Half Moon Bay students assisted SMHS with project for Second Harvest Food Bank – SMHS Leadership Teacher will present stories about students and their food drive at the statewide CADA
conference
• Collaborating – Increase Collaboration County Wide
• Mills High School students and teacher visited to watch and discuss a Rally and Leadership • Capuchino High School students gather ideas about recognition and the Jefferson Awards • Half Moon Bay High School students visited to see rallies, classes, and the Jefferson Awards Presentation • Burlingame HS and San Mateo HS both completed ODFL projects and shared ODFL materials

• Keys to our success:
– Maintain a core value of service in the Leadership class and the Renaissance Class
– Several school-wide service projects
– Showcase JA winners and service projects at all school assembly at least once a year
– Monthly Recognition Rallies with JA Award
– Annual Jefferson Awards Night recognizes key stakeholders in our community
– Attend Jefferson Awards training days and celebrations in the Bay Area
• New Innovations: – Jefferson Awards “20/20 Service Challenge” serves as a “Year Round Service Drive”
– Tiered Level of Recognition (orange, silver, gold and platinum)
– Partnered with the non-profit “Ways to Help”
• Encourage students to serve in 16 distinct areas of service
• Share our expertise and experience to help them create and evaluate a toolkit for schools to run service projects
• Utilize their “virtual” help desk for help

GOALS for 2010-2011: – Create more diverse service projects – Establish a new a year long goal and “Service Challenge” (20-20) – Recruit more underclassmen students to be on the Jefferson Awards Team – Encourage more schools to the adopt the JA program– Expand the Help Desk for Help and use “u-give” in 2010-2011 – Contact Press regularly with community service news– Fundraise for Jefferson Awards Students in Action
– Share “waystohelp” as a resource for other schools
