O n - g o i n g ProgramsAcademic Letterman Jackets: Since 1995, students who maintained a straight "A" average for the year (4.0 GPA) have received a letter jacket with a gold "lamp of knowledge" emblem. In the fifteen years in which Motiva Enterprises has supported the program, the company has provided jackets for almost 800 students.
Cornell Summer Program: Since 1993, approximately 100 Davis juniors have spent a summer at Cornell University, earning college credits while still in high school.
Project GRAD & GEAR UP: In 1993, Project GRAD (Graduation Really Achieves Dreams) was founded at Davis High by former Tenneco CEO James Ketelsen. The program provides scholarships to students as an incentive to complete high school and enroll in college. Last year the program awarded $2.8 Million dollars in scholarships to over 700 graduating seniors in HISD.
AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination): In its fourth year at Davis, the AVID elective is designed to help close the achievement gap for first-generation college attendees.
Dual Credit: Davis has partnerships with the University of Houston-D o w n t o w n a n d t h e H o u s t o n Community College System to offer students the opportunity to earn high s c h o o l a n d c o l l e g e c r e d i t s simultaneously in both a college setting and on the high school campus.
Colleges that Davis Students have graduated from since 1998: Cornell, Columbia, Princeton, Duke, Rice, Beloit, Drexell, Kalamazoo, University of Texas, Texas A&M, University of Missouri, Texas State, Sam Houston, University of Houston-Downtown, Texas Tech, University of Houston, Prairie View A&M, among others.
