“Samford prepared me not only academically but personally. I am currently studying at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston and credit much of my success to my experience at Samford.
Through one-on-one studio sessions to a rigorous performing schedule with ensembles and weekly course study, I benefited from solo performances, professional settings and personal growth.”

Their compassion and their personal expertise provide a caring learning environment that allows students to experiment and explore the breadth of their talents. Composition Composition majors are encouraged to explore composition across an array of styles,
including contemporary, classical, electronic music, jazz, indie rock, contemporary Christian, gospel, folk, and film scoring. Student composers participate in master classes
with guest ensembles and composers-in-residence and partner with chamber groups and large ensembles for reading/recording sessions, rehearsals, and concert performances.
Composition majors pursue a variety of post-graduate careers and paths: composers and arrangers for film, television, the concert hall, and the church; recording artists and
songwriters; graduate studies in music at the master’s and doctoral level; educators and teachers in preparatory programs, high schools, and colleges/universities; church ministers of
music, artists-in-residence, and staff arrangers; and legal field in copyright law.
“Through my studies at Samford, I have gained a tremendous appreciation for music and those that have come before me and I am excited to continue the tradition of composing music. Performance opportunities on and off campus and experiential learning projects significantly enhanced my education throughout my four years.” —Sarah Allen ’17, composition, Hurst, Texas

Music and Worship A Bachelor of Music in music and worship is designed for students committed to vocational music and worship ministry. The program includes course work in music, worship, ministry and religion, and a supervised experience in a congregational setting.
Samford’s School of the Arts has strong relationships with local churches and most students work, intern or volunteer at one of the many ministries in the area. Our graduates have gone on to serve churches across the globe.
“Worship has the power to unite people, teach truth and heal wounds. I decided to study music and worship at Samford so I could be equipped with the skills and knowledge that might help others experience these transformative acts of public worship.” —Christian DaPonte ’18, music and worship, Acworth, Georgia
