M30dSWe love the Infiniti M Sedan. Why? The reason is simple; it has a great shape.
Recently, Australian research proved that good looking males earning up to 30% than their normal looking counterparts. Well great look always sells more.
If good looking isn’t a great reason for potential customers to buy…then, what is the reason why people like the look of Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin and Jaguar even though they don’t prepare to buy one and park them inside their garage.
So much so for my opinion, the Infiniti M goes further than good looks. It is a brand that has been focused for the US market and absented for over 16
years, it has come back with three models, FX for the SUV, M Sedan and the G convertible will certainly make the local luxury car market add a little bit of fun or keen competition.
The Infiniti is the prestige arm of the Renault-Nissan brand, the return of the Infiniti represents a fierce competition with Lexus GS and RX models, BMW 5 series and X5 and it will also extend its flight even to the Mercedes Benz ML and E class as well.
It’s a big job for the Infiniti trio. However, the possibility is extremely high, as the build quality of the M Sedan shows that Infiniti has done its homework.
From the start, the M Sedan runs on a rear wheel drive platform, a sign for a high performance sports sedan. It has both V6 engines running on petrol or diesel, plus a hybrid petrol arriving Australia at a later stage.

The design of the car is fully of lovely curves; it resembles the 1960s Jaguar bulging and smooth lines. Today only Porsche still embraces in their Cayenne four wheel drive. Curve panel makes the car stronger and more costly to build. Personally, I would say it is a retro look that helps people to go back to some fond memories in the past. The curve lines have a distinctive aerodynamic layout from the front right to the back. It shows smooth force and liquidity. Also, the interior has a matching theme with the top cover of the dashboard, serving a reverse smooth double U, of which its helps immensely for the driver to experience a more consistent and artistic design theme. The panels from the driver’s side moves to the front passenger side cleverly extend your horizontal perspective by using a wide swing curves, helping the driver to feel that it is a big and luxurious car with leather stiches and a neatly designed instrument control panel. The touches of those knobs and switches make you feel that they are of high quality and reliable. Luggage space at the back isn’t that generous. It is limited to 2 large luggage and some small bags, even though it has a slim alloy space saver tire underneath the floor.
The car itself uses a near frontal mid engine layout, the engine moves back toward the cockpit to allow better body weight distribution. However, the layout pushes the transmission gear box toward the driver and front passenger, so the foot well width is slightly compromised. With a driving axle tunnel extended to the back, the mid rear passenger will have limited comfort over a long drive. But, the M Sedan has all the traits of a sports sedan. We drove the Turbo Diesel M30dS. The acceleration was smooth and silky but it can be a sudden burst if you choose Sport mode with a heavy foot. The reason is simple; the dashing is helped with the massive torque of a typical high performance turbo diesel engine. The mid range acceleration is effortless and remains on the tap until well over 90kms. Then, the traffic law rules. We enjoy the spacious and quiet ride quality that is often associated with high end luxurious sedan like the BMW and Mercedes-Benz. The cabin is also equipped with advance noise cancellation equipment from Bose. Its counter-acts the nasty engine noise but it is not targeted towards road or wind noise and it is not functional with the windows down.
How it drives? The steering is nice. It has a rear active steering at the back which makes
cornering in country and windy road more responsive and smooth. I felt at times, when cruising at 80 – 100kms, the steering is neither heavy nor light steering, of which I prefer to have a more solid heavy steer. I think that will be more useful to people who prefers a more neutral steer. One the more positive side, the steering column mounted paddle shifters is very handy and responsive in change.
The seats are big and comfortable with 2 memories for its electrically adjustable front seats. It has a wonderful air purification system. Good Bose sound audio but misses out the DVD entertainment for that long wait at the airport or at shopping centres. If it has the digital TV, I think it will sell like a launching science rocket.
On the safety sideIt has a dynamic cruise control which monitors the front traffic when cruising. A frontal collision alert that give audible beeps for possible frontal collision, a blind spot alert when changing lane and a lane departure warning with braking help for avoiding accidental lane departure by braking the rear wheel slightly to keep the car back into the lane.
