The National Samaritan Institute was founded in 1972 and now has nearly 500 Samaritan Counseling Centers throughout the United States. It began when a parish pastor, a physician, and a seminary professor observed that by working together, ministers, therapists, and physicians were very effective in helping people with stress-related problems. This team approach became the foundation of the Samaritan program. Samaritan counselors believe that there is a close relationship of mind, body, spirit, and community, and that optimal health care involves consideration of all four. Samaritan Centers employ licensed counselors who are trained in both theology and psychology. They understand and respect the religious perspectives of each client and, if appropriate, incorporate these views into the therapeutic process. These combined skills allow for complete assessment of each client’s needs. The National Samaritan Institute was founded in 1972 and now has nearly 500 Samaritan
Counseling Centers throughout the United States. It
began when a parish pastor, a physician, and a seminary
professor observed that by working together, ministers,
therapists, and physicians were very effective in helping
people with stress-related problems. This team approach
became the foundation of the Samaritan program.
Samaritan counselors believe that there is a close
relationship of mind, body, spirit, and community, and
that optimal health care involves consideration of all four.
Samaritan Centers employ licensed counselors who
are trained in both theology and psychology. They
understand and respect the religious perspectives of each
client and, if appropriate, incorporate these views into
the therapeutic process. These combined skills allow for
complete assessment of each client’s needs.

OUR SERVICES
Our interdisciplinary staff of clergy, licensed professional
counselors, psychologists, and psychiatrists are specialized
in treating individuals, couples, and families. Our
clients benefit from an approach which combines
psychological, physical, and spiritual aspects into the
counseling process keeping in line with the philosophy
of the Samaritan program of caring for Mind, Body,
Spirit and Community.
The Samaritan program is supported by congregations
of many denominations and faith groups and also
serves people who do not claim a religious affiliation.
The SCCSW is a Wisconsin State Certified Mental
Health Clinic and has two national accreditations
from the National Samaritan Institute and Lutheran
Services in America making the SCCSW one of the two
organizations to have these dual national accreditations.
The SCCSW is a non-profit organization that accepts
many insurance carriers, self-pay and sliding-scale fees.
