SALTDEAN, ROTTINGDEAN & OVINGDEAN NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH NEWSLETTER OCTOBER 2016 A MESSAGE FROM DENISE CLARK CHAIR OF SR&O NHW Many of you are aware of the changes that funding cuts are having on our local Police which could affect our area. We would like to assure NHW Members and Residents that the Saltdean, Rottingdean & Ovingdean Neighbourhood Watch will be even more ac- tive, but do need your help. We will not be receiving so many reports about crime/incidents in our area, and unfor- tunately also the PCSO will not be sending out the popular E Watch that reports on local crime, as we know it. We would like to ask that you report any incidents to us, or your co-ordinators who can then pass them to the committee, so we can raise the profile for need of local Police in our area. Of course, any incidents of a serious nature or anything suspicious should first of all be reported to 999 if they are happening when you see them or 101 if they have happened already. There has been some incidents recently of anti-social behaviour in Saltdean Oval and the sea front e.g. graffiti on the cliffs, swings in the Oval set on fire, criminal damage to Conner's Court on the sea front and broken glass in the sandpit. If you see anything happening in the park or sea front please report it. Remember "CRIME CANNOT FLOURISH IN A COMMUNITY THAT CARES" Thank you OPEN MEETING Due to unforeseen circumstances there will not be an October Open Meeting for members and co-ordinators. The next meeting will be the AGM in March 2017 (date to be advised). However, if you do have any problems or concerns please do not hesitate to contact us and we will do our very best to help. DON'T TOLERATE ANTI-SOCIAL DRIVING - REPORT IT! Are you fed up of drivers speeding and also using their mobile phones? Recent reports about deaths caused by drivers using their phones are horrendous and must be stopped. The Police are not always around to monitor this but residents can report a driver who is seen to be us- ing their phone to Operation Crackdown by giving them the car registration, type and colour of vehicle and details of time and place. . (Remember always pull over in a safe place to make any notes - or ask a passenger to re- cord the details. It is a good idea to have a pen and paper in your glove compartment. You can report to Operation Crackdown on line at www.operationcrackdown.org or by calling the Crackdown Hotline on 01243 64 22 22. (You can also report abandoned vehi- cles to Crackdown)
