The Salesian works for poor young people in Haiti have been seriously affected by the 12 January earthquake.

Don Bosco The Salesians of Don Bosco have been working to provide food, shelter and education to the poorest children and young people of Haiti for 85 years.

Their work is a voice of hope in a country apart by violence and extreme poverty.

A voice of hope for the young of Haiti

Before the earthquakeBefore the earthquake there were 60 Salesians in 9 communities serving poor children and young people in Haiti.

The Salesians operated six schools and mission centres providing education, vocational courses and technical training to enable young people to learn practical skills to gain employment. In many cases they also provided food, shelter and other basic living essentials.

NOW … almost everything is destroyed

The Salesian Family worldwide is rallying to the assistance of the Salesian Family in Haiti.

Fr Pasqual Chavez, Rector Major of the Salesians has launched an international appeal calling on all members of the Salesian Family around the world to respond generously to provide urgent support to Don Bosco’s poor sons and daughters in Haiti.
