Remember to check out Salem’s Little Free Library!
The library belongs to everyone—children, teenagers, and adults.
Anyone can use it—church members, children, friends, and neigh-
bors walking by. No card is necessary; you don’t have to whisper;
there are no fines; the books are free. Does a book look interesting
and you’d like to read it—take it! Then, pass it
on to a friend or return it to the library. Do you
have a book you have finished reading—leave
it in the library for someone else to read. Remember to also check out
Salem’s read-and-return library in the conference room.
FREE NOON MEAL: Salem will host on: Oct 19 and Dec 21.

Many thanks to Tom & Lois Padilione who have volunteered their time to
coordinate this meal for many years. They
can continue to coordinate until the end of
this calendar year.
Lydia/Rachel Circle will be meeting Oct.13th in RFH at 7pm. We will be organizing/cleaning the kitchen.

CROP HUNGER WALK allows communities to come together to raise funds and awareness for the grow-ing problem of hunger throughout the world. Of the total amount raised, 25% stays in Lebanon County. forms are available. We have a container for donations on
the table. Last year we contributed $757.00, of that

In Lebanon Co. and ‘Around the World’
Dress A Girl Around The World By now our "Pillow Case Dresses" are on their way to Mwakaleli, Konde Diocese, Tanzania. Bishop James S. Dunlop and Rev. Clifton Eshbach will be delivering the dresses personally. I hope you had an opportunity to see our display of the 55 dresses in RFH and you will think about joining our group when we resume this project in 2018. At the suggestion of Mary Miller we will also be making shorts for the young boys. A big "THANK YOU" to Gaile Achey who found so many colorful pillow cases and to Barb Hartman, Mary Miller and Tina Zellers for their sewing expertise. We all really enjoyed working on this most worthwhile project. Asanta sana, Patti Gartner, Chair
Have you heard of COMPEER?
A state-awarded “Best Volun-
teer Organization,” COMPEER
of Lebanon County works with
people who have mental illness
to enhance quality of life, im-
prove the ability to cope with life's stress, and
foster mental wellness. Your interest would be
most appreciated by many among your own
community, including our veterans. There are
30 individuals on the wait list in need of a com-
panion; both men and women are needed. The
time commitment is minimal, but please know
just a few hours of volunteer time can have an
influence that lasts a lifetime. I know both as a
client and a volunteer the joy of taking action
using your skills, talents and friendship to make
a difference in the life of another. Please call,
regardless of your age, the COMPEER office at
717.272.8317 to speak with a compassionate
staff person or brochures are available in the
Co-op office. SO MUCH FUN at LITTLE or NO
cost to you. Most Sincerely, Cindy A. Plasterer

I am writing on behalf of my mother, Nancy Poust. She
asked me to thank you for the beautiful flowers and the
nice visit from Laurie & Sharon Bomgardner. She appre-
ciates your kind gesture as she does love visitors. She is
doing well and has adjusted to her life at Cornwall Man-
or. Thank you...Sincerely, Judy Heckard
Thank you to Mr. Hans Gartner for taking us
on a tour of Salem Lutheran Church. I walked
in the footsteps of my 6th great grandparents
and their family! Thank you for blessing me
beyond my hopes and dreams!
God Bless, Kathy (Leedy-Hess-Embich) James
Another birthday - thank you for making it special again. Fruit-so good as always. My wonderful friends, Joanne and James Foltz visited with me and also brought the fruit tray. I am so grateful to be a member of Salem for all my 93 years. Sincerely, Ollie Galbraith
Archives Corner: Summer brought visitors to Salem from California, Nevada, and Tennes-
see. After reading about Salem’s historic churches in the AAA Tour Book, traveling tourists
from California and Nevada decided to drop by for a visit. A researcher from Nashville, who had
requested and received genealogical information earlier this year, was inspired to visit Salem
when touring the area.
The “Lamplighter” poem by Robert Louis Stevenson reminds us of the work Ed McGowan,
property chairperson, has been doing in creating a brighter and safer exterior view of the church
property. LED light bulbs and more light fixtures have been added to the property. Please drive
by the church during the evening hours to see the glow and the added safety it provides for the
neighborhood. Thank you, Ed.
Dear Pastors & members of Salem, Thank you very much for the lovely fruit basket for my 95th birthday. It is very nice to be remembered on your birthday. Thank you everyone who sent me a birthday card. You are all so dear & caring to think of me. I really appreciate all you do for me. Thank you again, Charlie Wise
A Message from Pat Shedlock—My rehab has been a good experience. My therapists are skilled and make me do the work! The staff is helpful & kind. Thanks for your prayers & notes.
Many thanks for the beautiful fruit tray sent to me for my 102nd birthday. Sincerely, Irene K. Fox
Thank you for the fruit basket that Sharon Martin delivered for my birthday. We had a nice visit & the fruit was delicious. Also, thank you for the cards which brightened my day. You are so kind. Blessings to all, Louise Kauffman
I am celebrating the 30th anniversary of my 21st Birthday! I hope everyone there is doing fine. I received the birthday card signed by everyone. Please convey my thanks and heartfelt appreciation. I can't wait to
get home for good in early DEC. I am currently on mission in Sarajevo, Bosnia in support of EUFOR HQ and away from my home unit in Kosovo. Say, "Hi" to everyone for me, and I can't
wait to get back into the swing of things. Best wishes. [Major] John Sheaf
