PASSENGERS flying with VirginAustralia will be able to waitliston all domestic and internationalshort-haul flights for the firsttime, effective next week. The move is one of a number ofinitiatives Virgin Australia will rollout when it upgrades to theSabreSonic CSS later this week,including the termination of the‘DJ’ code from 14 Jan (TD 14 Dec). Currently, flight waitlists arelimited to Virgin’s Australia’s int’llong-haul services only. From 13 Jan, agents will havethe ability to waitlist VA seats forupgrades on flights where therequested cabin is fully booked inJ, W or Y classes, via GDS orVirgin’s Guest Contact Centre. VA is advising the trade thatwaitlists cannot be requested orcleared at airports, and thatpayment will only be requiredshould the seat become available. The expansion to its other flightops ensures “consistent businessprocesses and industry practicesacross our domestic andinternational operations,” VA says. AIR France-KLM is reportedly inadvanced talks with managementof Alitalia, which is again hoveringclose to bankruptcy, according toan Italian newspaper.
