SAINTS’ Scoop Newsletter May 27, 2020 Dear Queen of All Saints Families, We are making final plans for organized drop off of Chromebooks/devices and textbooks, and pick-up of Report Cards, Summer Packets, and a surprise item. The drop off/pick up will take place on June 10th and June 11th, with the final plans for times and instruction published in next week’s Scoop. We want to ensure that proper procedures for social distancing and safety are in place. Thank you for your patience. We are getting excited as our 8th Grade students head into their last week of school at Queen of All Saints. The classes have special virtual surprises planned for the 8th graders. The students will finish up next week with a retreat, 8th Grade Appreciation Day, and a Graduation/Diploma ceremony on June 6th. The teachers and I are looking forward to honoring the students for all they have accomplished and celebrating with them as they move forward on their journey into high school. Don’t forget to record and send your Family Talent Show video to Mrs. French ([email protected]); we are enjoying watching our talented students and families, dance, sing, and play musical instruments. Keep those videos coming! Also, make sure to write down recipes and take pictures of your family-favorite dishes for our QAS cookbook. On Sunday the church will celebrate the Feast of Pentecost, the birthday of the Church and the gift of the Holy Spirit. Having been with his disciples for forty days after the resurrection, the Lord Jesus Christ ascended into heaven and now sits at the right hand of God the Father. Pentecost celebrates the overwhelming experience of God giving the Holy Spirit to the first community of believers in the church. The color of the vestments and decorations for Pentecost is red, which symbolizes the intense love and fire of the Holy Spirit. Come, Holy Spirit! I wish you all a wonderful week - stay cool and hydrated in this mini heatwave! Christ's peace and joy surround you, Mrs. Lucia Prince

Preschool Our Preschool students had an exciting week. One activity that all the students really got on board with, was the animals race to the ark! Students created dice of animals who would have been found on Noah’s Ark, then they rolled the dice. As they kept track of the animals movements, one stood out from the rest and won the race. Check out Elyse DeSmet’s tracking sheet to the right. She even had a little help finding the winner of the race. Another fun animal-related activity was a social emotional

learning assignment about turtles. Andrew Perez made his own turtle shell and transformed into a tortoise. Slow and steady wins the race. Transitional Kindergarten

TK students have been learning a bit about ladybugs and their life cycle and comparing them with butterflies. Philip Chau drew his four person family as a ladybug family! Students used watercolor paint to celebrate The Ascension of Jesus to Heaven Their art helps remind us that no matter where Jesus' body is- in heaven or on Earth- his Spirit and love are always in our hearts. Please take a moment to see Madison Berg-LeDoux’s creation (below center). Students also celebrated Mrs.

Blumling, as her Birthday was Wednesday. Ean Avelar shared a special Birthday card & video with his TK teacher. Mrs. Blumling shared one of her favorite birthday stories with the children in honor of her special day, too. Way to finish the year strong, TK students!

Kindergarten Kindergarten has been making word family flip books. Alejandro Zamores and Jaden Gepila made flip

books for -at, -ap, -un, -up, and -oy. Victoria Gonzalez and Camila Yopihua are showing us the paper chain they made for their Science activity.

2nd Grade The 2nd grade students have been working on dramatic readings. All the students sent Ms. Gillman videos of themselves reading ‘Stone Soup’. Their efforts to show voice expression and fluency while reading really brought the story to life. Well done, Angelo Rubio and Zoei Torres! Our students in second grade also celebrated the ascension of our Lord with creating art pieces. They created three dimensional representations

of Jesus’ entrance into heaven. 3rd Grade Last week in Religion, Third Grade celebrated the feast of the Ascension by completing a craft from Catholic Teacher Resources, watching an informational video, and writing facts about what they knew and learned about Jesus. This week, they are preparing their hearts for Pentecost Sunday (May 31st) by reading about, watching videos, discussing, and completing daily activities, prayers, and reflections. Leah Vega Mikaela Herrara Raya Salazar

4th Grade Last week, 4th Grade wrote their own Newspaper articles on our work from the past week. They had to summarize what they learned from different subjects and explain how it related back to their own lives.

Here are some student examples!

Enrichment Classes Spanish- Each week, Senora Egan works with our students on different units. Kindergarten and 1st grade students have been learning about giving weather reports. You can see some of our 1st grade students to the right on their zoom call. They will learn the spanish verbs, nouns and conjugation to give an accurate daily report of the weather. QAS 2nd and 3rd grade students are learning to express how they feel and the verb estoy, “I am”. As an example: Estoy feliz, or I am happy. 4th graders are reviewing how to write paragraphs. They will be selecting a subject of their choice, then write a grammatically correct paragraph about that topic. Our 5th, 6th, 7th , and 8th graders are learning about occupations. They are sharing what occupation they would like to be as well as why they would like to be that occupation. The assignment coordinating with their lesson is making a list of 6-8 things about the occupation they chose.

As your family continues to stay physically active during this time, Coach encourages you to discuss, and even give a try, to the many sports that are highlighted in the Summer. Here, you can see Enzo Francisco teaching us about the basics of fencing, Meilani Quesada is showing us how to lift weights, and Mayah Pisciotto teaches us about soccer. Continue to send in your photos and videos so we can share them here.

Art- Enjoy these very creative self portraits from our Jr High artists. They were instructed to make their portrait by using cut out magazine pictures. The art is based on the work of an Italian artist, Acrimboldo. I can see the resemblance, can you?

Twitter: @QASConcord   Lessons from the Gospels (Sermon 4 Kids)- Love in Any Language The third time he said to him, "Simon son of John, do you love me?" Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, "Do you love me?" He said, "Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you." Jesus said, "Feed my sheep. John 21:17 (NIV)

A few years ago, there was a song that became very popular. The name of the song was "Love in Any Language." Can you say, "I love you" in any different languages? This morning we can learn at least three different ways to say, "I love you."

In German, you would say, "Ich liebe dich!" Can you say that?

In Spanish, you would say, "¡Te amo!" That is pretty easy -- try it.

In sign language, you would say, "I love you" like this. Hold up the palm of your right hand facing out, then drop down your middle and ring fingers. I know that you can all say, "I love you!" in sign language!

You know, it is pretty easy to say, "I love you," but it is sometimes a lot harder to show it by our actions. That is what our Bible story is about today.

After Jesus was raised from the dead, he appeared to his disciples several times. On the third time that Jesus appeared to his disciples, he was with them on the shore by the Sea of Galilee. He turned to Peter and said, "Peter, do you love me?"

Peter answered, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you."

Then, Jesus said to Peter, "Feed my lambs."

Jesus asked Peter again, "Do you love me?"

Again, Peter answered, "Yes Lord, I love you."

Page 9: SAINTS’ Scoop Newsletter€¦ · SAINTS’ Scoop Newsletter M a y 2 7 , 2 0 2 0 Dear Queen of All Saints Families, We are making final plans for organized drop off of Chromebooks/devices

Jesus said to him, "Take care of my sheep."

A third time Jesus asked Peter, "Do you love me?"

Now Peter was very sad that Jesus asked him this question again, but he answered Jesus again, "Lord, you know all things, you know that I love you."

Jesus said, "Feed my sheep."

Why did Jesus ask Peter the same question three times? I think he wanted Peter to understand -- and he wanted you and me to understand -- that it isn't enough just to say, "I love you." We must show our love for Jesus by showing our love for one another and caring for one another.

Do you love Jesus?

Then feed and take care of his sheep! Now, that is love that can be understood in any language.

Dear Jesus, help us to show our love for you by loving and caring for one another. Amen.
