An Act of Spiritual Communion
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally. come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
As I stated in last weekend's homily, we are all shocked and saddened to hear that Matthew Glover, the former pastor, was arrested by the Rhode Island State Police.
Let's keep in mind that justice has to be served. Let the truth take center stage. We have to be patient to let the court system take its proper course. While we're all entitled to our opinions, we really can't make a final determination until the facts are revealed and considered.
And what about us? What about us here at Saints Rose & Clement Parish and Saint Rose of Lima School? How do we deal with this? First and foremost, let's not forget that this is a great parish and a great school, and you are fabulous people. We're not going to let this situation get the best of us, regardless of the outcome. We're going to do our very best at all times, and I re-affirm my commitment to you to do everything I can in celebrating Masses as well as my participation in Baptisms, Confirmations, school activities, faith formation, social activities, youth activities, and everything else that's necessary. It is an honor and a privilege to be your pastor.
At the same time, however, I can't do this by myself. It certainly needs the grace of God, but I also need your help, your support, and your prayers in order to make that happen. We will get through this, and we will do very well.
President John Kennedy gave a speech regarding the mission of landing people on the moon. What he said in 1962 applies very well to our current situation. "We choose to go to the moon...and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard...because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win, and the others too."
As Jesus has told us so many times: Do not fear. Do not be afraid. He is with us all the time as is our Blessed Mother Mary and all the angels and saints. All will be well.
God bless you!

Dear Father Messina: Nothing energizes this office more than the annual Rice Bowl Appeal, and our partnership with Catholic Relief services. To witness young and old people donate to the poor in this unique way is very gratifying to me personally. I receive requests, weekly, from places all over the world seeking our assistance and it is great that you and your parish have responded so generously.
I am extremely grateful to you and the members of SS. Rose & Clement Parish for your donation of $2,050.12.
I would be remiss if I did not remind you of the fact that the Rice Bowl collection send 75% of all that is collected to the missions throughout the world, while 25% of the money collected remains here in our own Diocese. It supports local organizations that reach out to our own population that struggles daily to survive.
Thank you for building bridges between your local community and the world.
