ARCHDIOCESAN BLUE MASS
Join Archbishop Leonard P. Blair to Honor First Responders at the 2016 Blue Mass on Sunday, September 11th at the Cathedral of St. Joseph at 11am. Police, Fire, Emergency Responders, the Dept. of Corrections and other organizations who are in the service of protecting the public’s well-being, will participate in an opening procession on Farmington Avenue in Hartford. The procession will lead into the Cathedral where Archbishop Blair will celebrate the Sunday Liturgy. While this annual event will once again honor the courage, generosity, personal sacrifice and life-saving competencies of first-responders, it will also be an occasion to reflect prayerfully on our unity as “one nation, under
God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
SAINT THOMAS CEMETERY
Pre-need graves are available for purchase, by appointment, at Saint Thomas Cemetery. Columbarium niches for cremains are also available. To schedule an appointment, please call 860-628-4713, Monday—Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
MINISTRY OF BAPTISMAL GIFTS
During the Sacramental Liturgy of the Baptism the candidate is clothed in a white garment. We have a parishioner at St. Thomas who has generously donated her time and talents to make these garments over the years, so we thank Terry Bouchard for her service in this ministry. In addition, St. Thomas Church has recently established a group of ladies who have dedicated their time and talents to making quilted Baptismal blankets to give to the newly Baptized. We thank the following parishioners for their beautiful gifts:
Diane Ferraiuolo
Beverly Henkel
Nancy Ouimette
The Church Sanctuary Candle is offered this week in memory of The Dominican Sisters and Associates Living and Deceased, requested by Carmel Avitabile.
ARCHDIOCESAN ANNIVERSARY SUNDAY
A special Mass will take place at St. Joseph’s Cathedral in Hartford on Sunday, October 16th at 2:00pm. All couples celebrating their 25th, 50th, 60th and any other special wedding anniversaries this year are invited! Archbishop Leonard Blair will be the main celebrant. Mass will include the renewal of marriage vows, followed by a simple reception and an opportunity for a photo with Archbishop Blair. Family members and friends are encouraged to attend. Please call the Rectory/parish office at 860-628-4713 to respond to this invitation.
We wish to congratulate the parents of Natalie Claire LaPorta, who was baptized at St. Thomas Church last weekend.

RCIA AND RCIC
Have you been thinking of becoming a Catholic or have you missed receiving the sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist or Confirmation? Do you know someone of another faith tradition who is interested in joining our Catholic Faith? Our parish community has a solution for you through the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults). RCIA is a process for faith conversion; a process for unbaptized persons to join the Catholic Church; for Catholic baptized persons to receive the Sacraments
of Eucharist and Confirmation; and also baptized persons from
other denominations to come in full communion with the Catholic Church. RCIC is the Rite of Christian Initiation for Children. Anyone interested in learning more about the Catholic Faith and possibly becoming a member of our parish community is invited to contact Sr. Marie at 860-621-1904.
CALLED TO SERVE
There are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the same Spirit;
there are different forms of service but the same Lord. (1 Cor 12:4-5). One way to serve Saint Thomas Parish is through Liturgical Ministries. Please give prayerful consideration to participate as an Usher, Minister of Holy Communion, Lector, Altar Server, Greeter, Cantor, or Choir member. For further information please contact Jean at 860-628-4713 (day) or email [email protected].
