Page 2 Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord
Dear Friends in Christ,
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, HE IS TRULY RISEN, Happy Easter. Today we celebrate, in union with our brothers and sisters all over the world, the foundation of our faith - The Resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. After two millennia the effect is stronger than ever and is still alive in our parish today. When some attempt to dismiss this as a figment of imagination and or a religious sentiment, I always ask, “Is there any other individual or events of the same time in history that has so much relevance and impact in the world today?” Of course there is none. That is a testimony, at the minimum, that this is a reality
greater than “a religious sentiment.”
The good news of the Resurrection has changed human history for centuries. It is still good news for all of us. Just as Jesus was raised, we too will be raised from our death to live with God eternally. This is our faith. At baptism we re-ceived the down payment, that is, a foretaste of our resurrection so we could live in this world, in the newness of life and in anticipation of the eternal life to come. This newness of life is to seek the things that are above where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. May Jesus’ resurrection give to our parish family, collectively, and to all of us, individually, the fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit and the impetus to live in the newness of life.
I am very grateful to a lot of people, ministries and their leaders, who have sacrificed time and talents in order to plan our Easter events. Let me mention a few: Fr. George, Deacon Dennis, Carleen Murphy and the liturgical ministers, Ce-cilia Adams and the choirs, Kelly Orr and the Art & Environment Ministry, Parish Staff, Ladies Guild, Knights of Colum-bus, participants at the Stations of the Cross, Pat Kane, Gary Hackney & Jeanette Dentro and all others who worked on the Soup/Salad Dinners, Youth Ministry and the RCIA team among others.
We congratulate Christina (Tina) Omeke, Alyssa DiVenere, Brittany Walls and Josh Rehberg who were received into the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil as well as Christopher Hagstrom who completed the Sacraments of Initiation with Confirmation. Next Sunday they begin the final part of their RCIA journey, Mystagogy (from the Greek words meaning “to lead through the mysteries”), which leads to Pentecost Sunday. The newly baptized are called “neophytes,” from the Greek words meaning “new plant,” because the faith has been newly planted in them. Even though their catechetical preparation has been completed, they still have much to learn about what it means to live as Catholic Christians.
Please join us next Sunday, for the celebration of Divine Mercy Sunday on the Second Sunday of Easter. Please see page 5 of the bulletin for all the details of this celebration.
Happy Easter!
In Christ,
Fr. Godwin

A middle-aged mother of two recently called St. Vincent de Paul for help with food and transpor-tation needs. Her public assistance was halted due to her husband’s return to jail for parole vio-
lation, leaving her with meager means to support her fam-ily. Vincentians prayed with her for strength and peace as she works to meet these new challenges in her life. Bus passes and bags of food were provided to help meet this family’s immediate needs. Referrals to other area agen-cies who might provide assistance were also shared. Vocations Corner: Called to LIVE!
REJOICE FOR THE LORD HAS RISEN! Today is the Church’s greatest celebration because we rejoice in the fact that Christ has conquered sin and death and that He lives! The best part about all of this is that He shares eve-ry last fruit of His victory with us. Because of this great gift, we too are called to live! By this I don’t simply mean that we are called to continue to eat, breath, and possess a beating heart. We are called to LIVE!!! We are called to allow the grace, joy, peace, and dynamic power that comes forth from the risen Christ to flow through our very being! He holds nothing back. But in order for us to be fully alive in Christ, we need to do our part to open up our hearts to receive this life. This requires living the life that Jesus has laid out for us. This requires daily asking Him to guide us so that we can remain fully alive. Straying from His path distances us from the life that we have been giv-en. On this Easter Sunday more than ever we ought to trust in the promise of joy that comes when we live out our God-given vocation. So let us take time to fully appreciate the fact that today is the greatest day to rejoice that God has a unique plan for each of our lives, and lets strive our best to following His voice so that we can receive His life to the fullest and so that we can in turn radiate the glory of the resurrection to the world!
