Our Parish Our Faith Our Future

DEACON GARY YANNIELLO

When asked the question: “Is it lawful to pay the census tax to Caesar or not?” - - -Jesus responds with one of the most well known and memorable lines in the Bible:

“Then repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar And to God what belongs to God.”

So how do we, as modern day disciples of Christ, relate and respond to this command?

The “Caesar” in our lives today is our society, the civil authority under which we all live, our community, our schools, our political system, the music and enter-tainment industry, our families...in other words, it is the world in which we live.

“Giving to Caesar” means that we need to be ac-tively involved in our world … we need to exercise the right to vote, be involved and concerned with social and political issues, participate in community affairs and in our schools, understand and use the modern day technology that is available to us.

But as followers of Jesus Christ and the Church, we must understand that there are no areas in our lives where God does not come first … there are no areas in our world where God’s law does not hold authority. And so we are called to bring God into this world through our actions, choices and words…”giving to God what belongs to God”.

The message we are to take from today’s Gospel reading is that the “way of God” is not found in avoid-ing the “Caesars” of our lives, but is found in living out our faith and acting with the authority of Jesus in all that we do.

Also, today is World Mission Sunday. It is a day set aside for Catholics worldwide to recommit them-selves to the Church’s missionary activity through prayer and sacrifice. All Masses are celebrated for the Church’s missionary endeavors and all donations col-lected at these worldwide Masses go in their entirety to support churches, hospitals, schools and vocations where the Church is new, young or poor….another beautiful in which we have the opportunity to “give to God what belongs to God”. Deacon Gary

PRAYER FOR THE MISSIONS

O God, who would have all His children to be

saved and to come to the knowledge of truth,

send forth, we beseech you, laborers into your harvest and

grant them with all confidence to preach the Word; that

everywhere your Gospel may be heard and glorified, and

that all nations may know you, the one True God, and Him

whom you have sent, Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord.

Amen.

Queen of Apostles, and all you angels and saints of God,

pray the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into the har-

vest to spare His people, that we may all rejoice with Him

and the Father and the Holy Spirit forever and ever. Amen A Catholic Prayer Book

CAMPAIGN PLEDGE PAYMENT GUIDELINES FOR

OUR PARISH, OUR FAITH, OUR FUTURE

Pledge Payments

* Remittance statements are mailed the last week of every

month. If you are sending payments on a different schedule

than monthly, the remittance statement schedule is the same,

but you’ll receive them when you selected-semi annually, an-

nually, etc.

* In order to assist your parish with the pledge payment pro-

cess over the next five years, please wait for your reminder

statement before sending any payments. Do not send pay-

ments directly to your parish. Pledges are centrally processed,

and the Diocese sends the proceeds to your parish each quar-

ter over the next five years via each parish’s Diocesan savings

& loan account.

All Other Inquiries

* For questions, concerns, or any other need concerning the

campaign, please contact the Office of Stewardship for any

questions at (412) 456-3085

* You may also contact your parish directly for any questions.

*Please visit the Church Alive! Website at ChurchAlive-
