University City, Missouri is an
inner-ring suburb of the City of
Saint Louis, a vibrant, diverse
community of about 40,000
people at the heart of the Saint
Louis metropolitan area. University
City is a full-service city, providing
its residents with police and
fire service, full recreational

facilities, a library and solid waste
services. With dozens of churches
and synagogues, parks, numerous
community organizations and
active entertainment and restaurant
districts, University City has
something for everyone in the family.
University City lies at the western
edge of Saint Louis, Missouri, in the
center of the Greater Saint Louis
Metropolitan region of Missouri and
Illinois. Interstate I-170 and other
primary roadways connect University
City to the rest of the Metro region,
with Lambert-Saint Louis International
Airport only minutes away. University
City was one of the first suburban
interfaces to Metrolink, the region’s
light rail system which is used by
thousands of riders each day.
The mix of suburban friendliness and
urban elements has never been more
embodied than in University City. The
city has extensive mature tree cover,
more than 200 acres of park space
and a nine hole municipal golf course.
There is a unique character to the
city’s neighborhoods, with a wealth
of housing options as diverse its our
residents. The area’s cost of living is
less than the national average and
by far the lowest of any Midwestern
metropolis. For businesses, lower
overhead costs convert into increased
profitability and healthy growth
potential.
Historic landmarks and districts are
preserved and promote University
City’s rich educational, cultural and
economic history. The Delmar Loop is
one such historic district that includes
book and record stores, restaurants
and cafes, a movie theater, galleries,
boutiques and nighttime entertainment
venues. The American Planning
Association named the Delmar Loop
one of the nation’s “Great Streets”.
Buildings along Olive Boulevard, a
second major commercial corridor,
include some of the oldest surviving
commercial structures in the region.

The Delmar Loop, or just “The Loop,”
is a six-block district located within
University City along Delmar Avenue
generally between Trinity and Des
Peres. The Loop is the home to some
of Saint Louis’ most famous restaurant
and entertainment attractions,
including the legendary Blueberry
Hill, a restaurant and live-music
venue that has attracted top names
throughout the years, The Pageant and
The Tivoli Theatre. Day or night, The
Loop is always active. The American
Planning Association recently named
the Loop “One of the 10 Great Streets
in America,” and The Loop serves as
a model for communities across the
country.
Along the Loop, you’ll find an eclectic
mix of businesses and retail operations,
including attorney’s offices, apparel
and gift stores, salons, restaurants
and more. On the west end of The
Loop, closest to Trinity, the Center for
Creative Arts makes its home, as does
The 560 Music Center of Washington

University. A post office, library, police
and fire department and city hall are
also located in this area.
Access to the many amenities of The
Loop is easy, with the Delmar Loop
Station MetroLink stop located on the
eastern end of the Loop, and Skinker
Boulevard providing quick access to
Forest Park Parkway, a critical artery
through Saint Louis. Forest Park itself
is located only about 6 blocks south of
The Loop, as is Washington University
in Saint Louis, which provides a
constant stream of young people to the
area. A streetcar line is in development
that will connect Forest Park and The
Loop with the MetroLink stations, with
construction set to start in Summer
2014. The project received $25 million
in federal funding that will be matched
by private funds.
Other recent developments have
included more retail and restaurant
space, as well as the addition and
renovation of many apartments in key
sections of The Loop, creating more of
a live/work environment.
