The Epiphany of the Lord They opened their treasures and offered him gifts of gold,
frankincense, and myrrh.
— Matthew 2:11b
Religious Education Welcome back to classes today, and happy feast of the
Epiphany! The magi followed a star to find Mary and
Joseph and Baby Jesus. What a lot of faith and trust
that took, not to mention using the map of the universe
(the night sky) as their guide. Do we have that kind of
faith and trust in God’s direction for our lives? How do
we follow the star? One clear night this week, take
your family outside for nighttime prayers – look up and
appreciate the beauty of God’s creation, an amazing
gift, just for us! Blessings, Eva
Catholic Schools
Character, Compassion, Values! The Gift of Our Time Service to one’s church and community consists of offering
one’s time to serve the poor, volunteer at religious education,
lector, be a Eucharistic Minister, bring communion to those
less ambulatory, but most importantly the gift of time is
allowance for prayer. Prayer is such an important part of
our lives that we must make time for it in our daily but
nevertheless busy lives.
Respect Life New Year seems to offer us a blank slate, a challenge to make
a positive contribution. A new year can be compared to a new
life; each child conceived is God’s opinion that the world
should go on. As each of us begins this New Year, let us
pledge ourselves anew to seeing that abortion does not thwart
God’s plan.
Catholic Advocacy Network Many issues face us on a national and state-wide level. Social
concerns such as health care, immigration, life issues,
abortion, euthanasia, catholic schools and family issues.

Trustee Election Election of new trustees will take place after 10:30 mass Jan.
8th. These trustees exercise functions required by Civil Law
though the Parish Council is advisory board to the pastor by
church law. Trustees are: Pastor (President & Treasurer),
Bishop and Chancellor and two lay trustees, Anne Wattman
and Harry Gordon. All are welcome to attend the meeting.
Love the Little Sisters
They will tell their story today about their work with the
elderly at the Jeanne Jugan Residence in Newark. Let’s
welcome and acknowledge the Sisters and their good
works.
Pastor’s Notes
Bishop Malooly, Bishop
John Barres and the late
Bishop Michael Saltarelli
laugh during the press
conference about Bishop
Barres’ appointment as
bishop of the Diocese of
Allentown, May 28, 2009 at
the Cathedral of St. Peter.
The Dialog/Don Blake
From The Dialog – Pope Francis has accepted the resignation
of Bishop William F. Murphy of Rockville Centre, New York,
and appointed as his successor Bishop John O. Barres of
Allentown, Pennsylvania. Bishop Barres has headed the
Diocese of Allentown since 2009. Bishop Murphy has been
Rockville Centre’s bishop since 2001. Canon law requires
bishops to turn in their resignation to the pope when they
turn 75.
Peace & Prayers to Bishop Barres!
