Dear Parishioners,
Today we honor the Holy Family and as we do, we think of our own families and consider how we can be like
the Holy Family. Jesus, Mary and Joseph, in their love for each other, should be a model for our own
families. At times they experienced fears, troubles, and tremendous challenges, but they show us that God is
always with us even when it may seem impossible.
Fr. Wright and I would like to thank everyone for their Christmas cards, wishes, gifts, and food. It was a
wonderful Christmas here at St. Joseph’s and we hope that the Lord blessed you and your family and loved
ones.
Just a reminder that the Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God on Monday, January 1st, is not a Holy
Day of Obligation this year because it falls on a Monday. As you probably know, there are five Holy Days of
Obligation: January 1st, August 15th, November 1st, December 8th, and December 25th. December 8th and 25th
are always Holy Days of Obligation no matter what day of the week they fall on. But on the other dates,
January 1st, August 15th, and November 1st, if they fall on a Saturday or a Monday, they are not a Holy Day of
Obligation. But despite it not being a Holy Day of Obligation this year, we will still have Masses on Monday at
9:00 am and 11:00 am to celebrate Mary, the Mother of God. What a great way to bring an end to 2017 and to
begin 2018, by attending Mass, asking for God’s blessing, and asking our Blessed Mother to pray for us.
God bless you and Happy New Year!
Fr. Winchel
