BULLETIN’S BACKPAGE You may have noticed the addition of local businesses
sponsoring our parish bulletin. These advertisements cover
the cost of printing our bulletin. While the inclusion of these
advertisements is not an endorsement by our parish, we do
encourage you to consider patronizing them when making
upcoming decisions to purchase goods or services from
businesses in our area. Please thank them for their support of
our parish.
Our Holy Father Pope Francis has asked us to
remember and pray for the world’s persecuted
Christians. While Christians in the United States
are not persecuted our religious liberties are
often under attack. St. James is part of a 10
parish cluster. As a cluster we decided to join
with others in wearing orange ribbons as a sign
of support and prayer. The color orange was chosen for this
nationwide movement because orange is the color of the
jumpsuits that those who were beheaded were wearing.
The week end of August 1st and 2nd we will have ribbons available at all of the doors of the church. We ask that you wear the ribbons or the color orange as much as possible
during the week of August 2nd to August 9th. We also ask
that at the masses on August 8th and 9th , if it is possible, to
wear the color orange to mass. Please remember those
who have been killed throughout the world for the faith and
those who will be killed in the future.
Women’s Dinner: July 29th at 6 PM. It will be held on the St.
James Catholic School playground. Once again it will be a
simple dinner with no hidden agendas. The parish will
provide Hamburgers and Hot Dogs and the fix’ins. We are
asking that everyone else bring a dish to pass. The parish
will provide ice tea. Anything else you might want to drink
you will need to bring with you and a little to share. The rules
are the same as last time. Tell your husband or family you
will be back later and they are on their own for supper.
Please call the office to make a reservation. This is so I know
how much food to get. If at the last minute you decide to
attend, just show up we will have plenty of food.
It is time to start thinking about which grade you would like to teach next year in our Faith Formation Program. If you
sign up early you will get the grade you want. Call Lori as
soon as possible. 319-653-4504
I want to thank everyone for the birthday wishes this past
weekend. They say you are only as old as you feel. Some
days I feel like I’m 1000 and others days like I’m 5.
The Hispanic Ministry will be hosting a concert on Friday,
July 24th, 2015 at 7pm in the church. Your invited to join us
to hear Ge’la, she is catholic singer. She has a big testimony
of how Jesus saved her and transformed her life. She was
diagnosed with cancer on her throat, by her faith, God
healed her and now she sings, and works for God.
