HEAD COACH ROB KRIMMEL Sixth Season Saint Francis
‘00Rob Krimmel enters his sixth season as the Saint Francis head men’s basketball coach in 2017-18 after he was named the
21st coach in program history on April 19, 2012. He is in his 17th season on the Red Flash bench following a successful playing career at Saint Francis. Krimmel has amassed 61 wins in his first five seasons, ranking sixth in program history.
Krimmel’s teams have shown improvement from year-to-year in four of his five seasons, culminating with the program’s first NEC title appearance in the NEC Championship game since 1991 in 2016-17. The 17-win season was the most by a Saint Francis team since 1997-98.
POINT GUARD PLAYSaint Francis is in good hands at the point guard position with junior Jamaal King and graduate student Malik Harmon running the controls. King, who is averaging 13.0 points per game through the first three contests, flirted with a triple-double in the win at Longwood with 11 points, eight rebounds and six assists. When he is off the floor, the level hasn’t dropped thanks to Harmon. The duo combined for nine assists to just three turnovers at Longwood and boasts an assist to turnover ratio of 1.25.
REBOUND REBOUND REBOUNDSaint Francis amassed a 43-37 advantage on the glass in its win at Longwood. Therebounding stat is important for the Red Flash as the team went 12-3 when winning the battle of the boards last season and just 5-14 when ending up on the other end.
BALANCED SCORING Saint Francis’s top three returning scorers (Isaiah Blackmon, Keith Braxton and Jamaal King) have picked up where they left off in 2016-17 as all three have reached double figures in each of SFU’s first two match-ups. King is leading the way at 14.0 ppg, followed by Blackmon at 12.5 ppg and Braxton at 11.0 ppg.
EFFICIENT OFFENSEThe Red Flash weren’t intimidated by the atmosphere in McKeon Pavillion on Saturday night, shooting 48.1% from the field, above its average of 46.7% from last season, and scoring 68 points. The Gaels only allowed 68 points in five of 34 games last season.
SFU PICKED FIRST IN NEC PRESEASON COACHES’ POLLExpectations are high in Loretto as the Red Flash was a unanimous No. 1 selection in the NEC Preseason Coaches’ Poll for the first time in program history. Fairleigh Dickinson followed in the second spot in the poll, but Saint Francis garnered all nine first-place votes from the league’s head coaches.
PRESEASON ALL-CONFERENCE TEAMSaint Francis was the only team to place two individuals on the NEC Preseason All-Conference Team. Junior and leading scorer from last season Isaiah Blackmon secured a spot as did sophomore and reigning NEC Rookie of the Year Keith Braxton.

MAGICAL SEASONThe 2016-17 season was a memorable one for Red Flash fans. Saint Francis went 17-17 overall, its most wins since 1997-98, culminating with a run to the NEC title game, its first appearance since 1991. Saint Francis would go on to play in the CIT, defeating Jacksonville in the First Round of the CIT for its first win in a postseason tournament since a 68-64 win over Holy Cross in the 1955 NIT.
NEC AWARD WINNERSThe Red Flash were mainstays on the NEC All-Conference teams in 2016-17. Sophomore Josh Nebo was named the NEC Defensive Player of the Year after leading the conference with 2.62 blocks per game. Freshman Keith Braxton was selected NEC Rookie of the Year after finishing the regular season just one NEC Rookie of the Week award shy of tying the conference record. Braxton averaged 13.1 points, 8.6 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.4 steals per game. Braxton was also named Second Team All-NEC while Nebo was selected Third Team. Sophomore Isaiah Blackmon joined Nebo on the third team after leading the team in scoring at 13.7 ppg.

Individually, Blackmon led in three-point percentage at 49.1% and Braxton led with 6.7 defensive rebounds per contest.
ACTION BRAXTONBraxton’s impressive freshman campaign was rewarded with his NEC Rookie of the Year award. He posted double-digit scoring efforts in 22 games and had 17 games with eight or more rebounds. Braxton posted nine double-doubles, the fourth-most among Division I freshmen. He led all NCAA freshmen in rebounds per game (8.7), averaging 1.6 more rebounds per game than any other freshman guad in Division I. The SFU freshman averaged 6.7 defensive rebounds per game, the second-most among Division I guards.

NEC PLAYERS OF THE WEEK FOR 2017-18
Road WarriorsWith the win at Jacksonville, SFU collected its ninth road win of the season. That is the most road wins in a season since 1966-67 and just two off the program record of 11 road wins, set by the 1951-52 team. Saint Francis won its sixth NEC road game of the season on February 16 at CCSU. The 2016-17 team is the first ever in program-history to win six NEC road games in a season since joining the conference in 1981-82.
BOMBS AWAYSaint Francis hit 11 or more threes in 10 games last season, including both of its CIT games. SFU hit 10 threes against Bryant, Duquesne, Marquette, Sacred Heart (2x) and Wagner, 11 against Jacksonville, UMBC and Wagner, and 19 vs. Chatham. The Red Flash hit eight or more threes in 16 games and led the NEC with a 39.0 three-point percentage and 8.0 made threes per game. SFU hit 50 percent of its three attempts in both of its meetings vs. Robert Morris despite the Colonials entering the games ranked among the top four three-point defenses in the nation. Senior Georgios Angelou led the team with 68 threes, with sophomores Isaiah Blackmon and Jamaal King right behind with 58 and 50, respectively. Blackmon shot a team-high 50.% from behind the arc.
2017 NEC TOURNAMENT RECAPThe Red Flash made an incredible run to last season’s NEC Championship game. SFU hosted Bryant in the NEC Quarterfinals, its first time hosting an NEC Tournament game under the current tournament format, which began in 2002. It was SFU’s first time hosting a Quarterfinal or later round game since the NEC Championship game in 1991. SFU earned a 100-78 win over the Bulldogs. The Red Flash moved on to the NEC Semifinals, where it met Wagner at the Spiro Center. Freshman Keith Braxton hit a buzzer-beating three from the wing to send SFU to the NEC Championship with a 71-70 win. Braxton’s shot was the No. 1 play on SportsCenter’s Top 10 plays. The Red Flash then fell 71-61 at Mount St. Mary’s in the NEC Championship game televised on ESPN2.
