Saint David’s United Church
Saint David’s United Church
Saint David’s Mission
Build on the present and
grow our ministry through
diversity, progressiveness
and by being active in the
community.
Do you have an ornament
on our Family Christmas Tree?
Are you new to Saint David’s?
We invite you to add a WHITE Christmas
ornament, with your name on it, to our
Family Tree. Bring your ornament on
Sunday, December 9 (White Gift/Pageant
Sunday) and there will be a special time in
the service to bring your ornament forward
to place on the tree.
On behalf of the Outreach Committee, we
would like to bring your attention that Dec 9th
is White Gift Sunday. Outreach is quite an
active committee and we financially assist
many local and international causes.
Internationally, we have supported Operation
Smile. It is amazing how a one hour operation
can change a child’s life forever. We have also
donated funds to Canadian Foodgrains Bank,
Leprosy relief, Medecins Sans frontiers and
the Stephen Lewis Foundation.
Locally, we support the Saint John School Milk
Fund, the KV Oasis Youth Centre, Outflow,
Romero House Mobile, Elizabeth Fry Society, KV
Firefighters Christmas Appeal, AIDSSJ and The
Saint John Boys & Girls Club Lunch Program. For
the Lunch Program, they feed over 100 children
daily. For many it is their only meal for the day.
The Executive Director Amy Shanks came to
speak at one of our recent meetings. There are
450 children currently using the Club every day.
We also assist many families within our own
community in need throughout the year. It might
be in the form of buying school supplies, or
helping out with electrical bills in the winter, or
most importantly buying groceries.
It should also be mentioned that we have been
successful in having local companies match our
contributions thereby doubling our contributions.
We would also like to remind the congregation
about our Mitten Tree. Feel free to add to the tree
either by knitting or purchasing mittens and hats.
We also want to thank the UCW for their annual
support of the Mitten Tree.
As you can see, your White Gift donations enable
the committee to assist many different
organizations and individuals. Over the past
year, we have received more requests for
assistance. For those of us that are fortunate and
can contribute, it would be appreciated if you can
take home an envelope located at each pew and
return it this Sunday, White Gift Sunday. Our
committee would like to personally thank you for
your continued support!
