—Miguel Arias, Copyright © J.

FEAST OF FAITH Processions Why does the liturgy begin with a
procession? It is not just a practical matter of getting the
ministers of the liturgy from the sacristy to the sanctuary. The
procession is a powerful sign of who we are as Christian people. We
are not static, staying in one place. We are going somewhere. Our
procession leads us to the altar, sign of Christ’s presence in our
midst. We move, we process, because we recognize our need for what
Christ is preparing for us at that table. We go forward eagerly,
because we are hungry for that heavenly food. This procession is an
orderly one: servers, deacon, priest presider. Each is set apart by
distinctive vesture: albs for the altar servers, dalmatic for the
deacon, chasuble for the priest. The procession is an image of the
hierarchical structure of the Church. On a deeper level it is an
image of unity in diversity. We are all on a journey to the
heavenly city, but each of us is clothed with different gifts. We
all receive the call to service, but not in the same way. Only by
coming together in all our wonderful variety can we achieve the
work of the kingdom. —Corinna Laughlin, Copyright © J. S. Paluch

promesa infinita.
WE ARE GOD’S HOLY FAMILY The scriptures of Israel are filled
with many stories of barren couples who were miraculously granted
the gi of children by God. Surely the best known among these is the
first reading from today, from which Luke took inspira on when he
recounted the miraculous birth of John the Bap st to Zechariah and
Elizabeth, and the more miraculous birth of Jesus to Mary and
Joseph. In each instance, we are given ex-amples or role models of
those who trusted in God. More than examples of those who trust,
they are models of self-surrender. They abandoned their own
presupposi ons and prejudices about the workings of the world and
turned their lives over to belief in a God who can make life grow
where none ought to; a God who can turn death around into a new and
unimagined life; a God who can, today, take a ny child of humble
parents in an insignificant town and make him into a light for all
the world. This is what we, as God’s holy family, are called to do
each day: to trust not in ourselves and the way we think things
should be, but to open ourselves and surrender ourselves in faith
to a God of endless promise. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

“Will there be Christmas?”
As we prepare ourselves for Christmas amid all the suffering due
to the pandemic, and other natural disasters, let’s remain
convinced that God is always with us, suffers with us, and never
abandons us. Father Javier Leoz, a parish priest at St. Fermin
Chapel, in Navarre Spain, wrote a poem “Will there be Christmas?”
The poem is widely circu-la ng in Spain where the spread of
COVID-19 is the highest. Thousands of people have passed the poem
to others via social media and it reached the cell phone of Pope
Francis. Apparently, Fr. Leoz received a phone call from Pope
Francis who shared his apprecia on for the message. Below is the
original text wri en by Fr. Leoz.
WILL THERE BE CHRISTMAS? Of course! More silent and with more
depth. More like unto the first one, when Jesus was born in
solitude. Without many lights on earth but with the star of
Bethlehem shining on paths of life in its immensity. Without
colossal royal processions but with the humility of feeling as if
we are shep-herds, young and old, seeking the Truth. Without big
tables and with bi er absences but with the presence of a God who
will fill everything.
WILL THERE BE CHRISTMAS? Of course! Without streets overflowing
with people with our hearts burning for the One who is about to
arrive. Without noise or fes vals, complaints, or stampedes … but
living the Mystery without fear of the “COVID-Herod” that tries to
rob us even of the dream of wai ng. There will be Christmas because
GOD is on our side and He shares, as Christ did in a manger, our
poverty, trials, tears, anguish and orphanhood.
There will be Christmas because we need a divine light in the
midst of such darkness. COVID-19 will never be able to reach the
heart or soul of those who put their hope and their high ideal in
heaven.
THERE WILL BE CHRISTMAS! WE WILL SING CHRISTMAS CAROLS! GOD WILL
BE BORN AND WILL BRING US FREEDOM!
angus a y orfandad.
