SAINT ANNE’S CATHOLIC CHURCH BRISTOL, VIRGINIA April 23, 2017 Remember St. Anne’s in your Will and Trusts Every year we celebrate Easter for seven weeks — we need all this time to appreciate all the new things that God is doing in our lives. On this Second Sunday of Easter, which the Church has also designated as the Sunday of Divine Mercy, we focus on the early church and how those disciples received and spread the Good News of God’s merciful love. Readings for this Week (April 24-29) Monday: Acts 4:23-31; John 3:1-8 Tuesday: 1 Peter 5:5b-14; Mark 16:15-20 Wednesday: Acts 5:17-26; John 3:16-21 Thursday: Acts 5:27-33; John 3:31-36 Friday: Acts 5:34-42; John 6:1-15 Saturday: Acts 6:1-7; John 6:16-21 Scripture for next Sunday (Third Sunday of Easter) Acts 2:14, 22-23 It was impossible for Jesus to be held by death. 1 Peter 1:17-21 We were saved with the precious Blood of Christ. Luke 24:13-35 They recognized Jesus in the breaking of the bread. Next Sunday we will hear the story of the disciples on the road to Emmaus, a story that we may find played out in our own lives more than we realize. Two despondent followers of Jesus walk away from Jerusalem, not knowing which way to turn. All their hopes have been dashed. We too have walked that road when our life had been disrupted, our dreams snatched away. Then, miraculously, like the disciples in the story, we discover God’s presence in the midst of our despair. Please note: No Confessions this Tuesday for the general public; Confessions on Tuesday will be for the teens preparing for Confirmation. We’d like to get the donations counted and sent to Operation Rice Bowl as soon as possible. We’ll let you know how much we collected. Thank you for your donations. Congratulations and Welcome! We welcome Craig Weaver, our newest member to the Catholic faith, who received the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, First Eucharist) at the Easter Vigil. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament Weekly Adoration resumes this week (Tuesday, April 25), immediately after morning Mass (approx. 9:15 a.m.) Please take some time from your busy schedule to come to the chapel and sit in prayer with the Blessed Sacrament. Please take note!! Morning Mass this Friday, April 28 will be at 8:30 a.m. in the church (instead of 7:30 a.m.). for you to make a difference in the lives of those in need
right here in our diocese… here in Southwest Virginia! This
is also a great opportunity for you to fulfill community
service hours that you may need for high school programs.
