Ladies and Gentlemen, First of all, on behalf of Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry of (VCCI) I would like to warmly welcome you all to the opening ceremony of the Vietnam Saigon Textile & Garment Industry Expo 2018, Vietnam Saigon Fabric & Garment Accessories Expo 2018.

Textile and garment is one of the key economic sectors of the country, it also has a lot of potential for further development. Textile and garment industry has been leading the country’s export turnover. Export turnover of textile and garment products in 2017 is 31 billion USD, an increase of 10.23% compared to that of 2016, while import turnover of textile and garment accessories is 18.91 billion USD, an increase of 11.43% compared to that of 2016. To maintain export growth and to meet the demand of the domestic market, the textile and garment industry needs to increase the product volume and product value.

To accomplish that goal, the textile and garment industry shall relentlessly focus its efforts on technological innovation, improvement of product quality, and strengthening cooperation between domestic and foreign businesses as well as serving well traditional and new markets.

In addition to existing FTAs that Vietnam has signed, on the 8

th of March 2018,

Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership was signed, and the EU-VN FTA is expected to be signed soon. This will open up big opportunity for Vietnam textile and garment businesses to increase their export and to attract foreign investment for the further development of Vietnam’s textile and garment industry.

As an institution whose mission is to support businesses, Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry / VCCI Exhibition Services Company Ltd., together with Vietnam National Textile and Garment Group and the CP Exhibition Hong Kong jointly organized the Vietnam Saigon Textile & Garment Industry Expo 2018 and Vietnam Saigon Fabric & Garment Accessories Expo 2018 from April 11 to April 14 at Saigon Exhibition and Conference Center in HCMC.

With a total exhibition area of over 30,000 m2, SaigonTex 2018 is a trade promotion activity which has attracted the attendance of nearly 900 exhibitors from 27 countries and territories around the world to showcase equipment and materials serving Vietnam’s textile and garment industry. It is also an opportunity for domestic and foreign enterprises to meet their partners, promote their brands and find new customers as well as expand their markets.

Especially, SaigonTex 2018 attracts a number of manufacturers of equipment and machinery of advanced technology and suppliers of accessories to serve the growing textile and garment industry of Vietnam.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Welcome delegates, distinguished guests to the Vietnam Textile & Garment Industry Expo Saigontex 2018 which is held by the Vietnam National Textile and garment Group Corporation (VINATEX), Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), CP Exhibition HongKong. In 2017, Vietnam Textile and Garment Industry faced the biggest challenge in more than a decade, when The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) , which was expected to bring many advantages to the sector, was not signed after a long negotiations process. Contrary to predictions of a possible downturn, 2017 witnessed a surprising surge in the sector as exports reached more than $ 31 billion USD, up more than 10 % from 2016. This is very impressive growth of Vietnam textile and garment industry in the new challenge without TPP, along with the serious competition of garment exporters from other countries that consider Vietnam as the rival to hold the most. In addition to impressive export growth, bringing significant foreign currency to the economy, Vietnam's textile and garment industry has generated the largest number of jobs, with approximately 3 million workers. Every year, the textile and garment sector creates nearly 200,000 new jobs with stable incomes. This is a great contribution of the sector to the social stability, improving economic conditions and lifestyle in the areas of garment factory. Currently, in the context of the global shift and change mode of production due to the 4.0 technology revolution, Vietnamese textile and garment industry needs to invest in innovation in order to continue growing stronger and improve their competitiveness. SaigonTex 2018 is a annual activity to support enterprises in achieving this important goal. This exhibition will give Vietnamese textile and garment enterprises the opportunity to learn about the latest technology, to have better investment decisions, to get high efficiency and better compete with other countries in the world. By the year of 30th, SaigonTex 2018 is the leading large scale textile and garment fair in Vietnam. This is also the important link between domestic and international enterprises, to promote trade first then the opportunities for joint venture, cooperation in production, technology transfer, join the global supply chain. The fair is also a place where managers and technical specialists from companies meet with technology experts, advanced production models and business leaders exchange ideas and discuss about new possible solutions. Ladies and Gentlemen, First of all, on behalf of the Vietnam National Textile and Garment Group, I would like to express my sincere greetings and thanks to leaders from MOIT, Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and distinguished guests, companies attending today event: the opening ceremony of the International Exhibition of Textile and Garment Industry - SaigonTex 2018 in Ho Chi Minh City. Endorsed by MOIT and the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association, this event is co-organized between The Vietnam National Textile and Garment, VCCI Exhibition Service Co., LTD and CP Exhibition Hongkong Co., SaigonTex is the biggest international exhibition of Vietnam textile and garment industry. From April 11 – 14, 2018, this event is held on area of almost 30,000 sqm, with nearly 1,000 exhibitors from 27 countries and regions to present machinery, equipment and materials for textile and garment industry. From 2016, although we has encountered various difficulties from competition from other countries to unexpected changes in global economy and polities in the world, Vietnam's textiles and garments still achieved double-digit growth rate in 2017 and has set a firm goal to maintain this growth in the year of 2018. The highlight of SaigonTex 2018 is the increased involvement of domestic material suppliers. This is a positive sign of the sustainable development of Vietnam textile and garment industry in a near future with increasing local input.
