Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management has gone through leaps and bounds in

the past year providing professional and high quality education through its originality of

conception, excellence of visual presentation and commitment to accuracy. Pertaining to

this, Sahyadri has been acknowledged with numerous accolades from various other

institutions, enterprises and well wishers.

The placement activities has been the probable highlight of the institution with over 130

reputed companies from diversified fields of engineering and management visited the

campus. As many as 425+ offers have been received by our students.

Sahyadri institute has initiated its streak of acquiring ranks at the university level thereby

attaining greater heights in academics. Ms. Prajna has secured the Fourth Rank in VTU

MBA for 2013-15 batch which is a great pride for Sahyadri.

The students of Sahyadri participated in the SAE Aero Design (East) international

competition held at Fort Worth, Texas, USA. Team Hawk with ten members brought laurels

to the institute winning the 4th Prize. Students of Sahyadri Motor Sports participated in

the international series of Karting and secured “The Most Professional team” award. The

team “Sahyadri Athurians” participated in a national level student version of the Formula

car race –SAE SUPRA 2016. Sahyadri students also participated and won prizes in

numerous national and international technical events conducted by various premiere

organizations. The College organized a national level Aero Modelling Competition

“Aerophilia 2016” in which teams from Various IIT's, NIT's and other premiere institutions

participated. Sahyadri also organized a two day International Conference on “Smart

Materials and Technologies for Emerging Electronics”. The faculty and research team of

Sahyadri is committed to maintain a high standard of research integrity that has always

been a characteristic which represents its growth. The research team was able to get

funds from various funding agencies for their high-end research.

The students have continued their winning ways with extensive achievements in athletics,

volleyball, badminton, throw-ball tournaments and other events.

Thus the activities that have been highlighted in the newsletter itself is the mirror for the

stakeholders. Various events organized, interaction of students with important industry,

society and academia leaders on a regular basis provides the clear direction for the

students in setting their goals and moving forward to realize the same. It is a reflection of

the college initiation in the overall growth of the students. The institution, with a

committed and driven staff headed by the able guidance of Mr. Manjunath Bhandary,

Chairman, has been the motivation for staff and students alike to achieve excellence in all

fields.

The current issue of this newsletter will take you through the outstanding achievements

and activities of the last six months of the semester. The institute welcomes feedback and

Pavithra Prabhakar, Assistant Professor of Computing and Information Sciences, Department of Computer Science, Kansas State University has received a five-year $446,000 CAREER award from the National Science Foundation, USA, for her project "Robust Verification of Cyber-Physical Systems” to develop better transportation, health care and energy systems. She is the daughter of Dr. D. L. Prabhakara, Director, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management.

Prabhakar's main research interests include the formal analysis of cyber-physical systems, with emphasis on both theoretical and practical methods for verification and synthesis of hybrid control systems. She has served on the program committees of several conferences in the field of hybrid systems and formal verification as well as chaired several workshops and seminars. She also has received the Marie Curie Career Integration Grant from the European Union.

JBF Petrochemicals Limited is a manufacturing unit with an investment of 4500 crores producing PTA(Para Tartalic Acid) which is an intermediate product such as Terlin, Nylon etc,. They have many unit operations to convert petrochemical raw material collected from the near by industry. They reuse about 75% of the water used for the process and they also generate power required for their production from their resources. A waste treatment plant is also housed in the industry complex.

Murthy, Arpitha V. colleges in the 16th Annual VTU Youth Fest organized Shetty, Ankitha K., Paresh Saliyan, Shreya Kottary, by Alva’s Institute of Engineering and Technology, Mayuri J. Members of Sahyadri Edu DREAMERS R&D Pvt. Ltd. had an interaction with Padma Shri Dr. R. M. Vasagam, former chairman, NDRF, and Dr. Krishnaswamy Ramachandran, director, NDRF in the company premises. The visitors appreciated the aerial vehicles and products that the company is bringing into the market. Startups by Sahyadrians like Axndx, Whattabiz demonstrated their company profiles and the resource persons were happy with the support the college is providing for the startups. Padma Shri Dr. R M Vasagam also stated that the thrust given to activity-based learning and entrepreneurship will make this a unique system in India in the near future.

Members of Sahyadri Edu DREAMERS R&D Pvt. Ltd. participated as exhibitors in the 103rd Indian Science Congress held in the University of Mysore. Members participated along with the team of Pilikula Regional Science Center headed by K. V. Rao - Executive Director, Dr. Jayanth - Honorary member - PRSC under the category of Department of Science and Technology, Karnataka. The stall was awarded “Best Exhibitor Stall” in the exhibition. The exhibitors also included DRDO, ISRO, NRDC, etc.

Students of DTlabz participated in the National Science Day 2016 held at Pilikula Regional Science Center, Pilikula. A total of 21 students who are members of DTlabz participated in the event along with mentors of DTlabz. 7 projects were exhibited in the exhibition where every student member was given a chance to exhibit one project which followed with the competition amongst the stalls. Students also attended presentation session, where students from several engineering colleges presented their ideas.

Mr. Johnson Tellis, Director of DTlabz and Mr. Gautham Nayak, Co-founders of DTlabz, visited Infant Jesus Joyland School, Kolya Education Society, Someshwara, Mangalore and interacted with the high school students. The topic of session was “Magic of Science” where students were provided with exciting things about science and how it can be used in solving daily problems. The intention was to open their minds into a whole new dimension of learning science. Students were put into a breakthrough session on developing project ideas into a prototype and how science can be experienced.
