Facility  Development  Plans   At  Dulwich  College  Beijing  we  are  constantly  improving,  and  this  year  we  are  upgrading  our  Legend  Garden  Campus  to  enhance  the  education  offered  to  our  students.   This  document  will  address  some  of  the  questions  and  concerns  you  may  have.  These  concerns  are  listed  below: What  facilities  are  being  built? When  will  the  construction  be  completed? How  can  you  ensure  my  child’s  safety  during  the  construction  of  the  new  wing?   Will  the  construction  be  noisy? What  can  be  done  to  reduce  and  control  dust? Will  there  be  any  dangerous  materials  on  the  site? What  additional  play  area  will  be  provided  and  how  will  it  be  accessed? Will  this  extension  consolidate  the  Legend  Garden  Campus  with  Early  Years? How  will  the  College  monitor  the  walk  along  the  bridge? Who  will  be  available  to  answer  further  questions?

How  can  you  ensure  my  child’s  safety  during  the  construction  of  the  new  wing?   The  construction  site  is  completely  enclosed  by  a  fence  with  a  single,  guarded,  gate  to  allow  access  to  workers  and  vehicles.  During  drop  off,  break,  lunch  and  pick  up  times  the  construction  area  will  be  totally  sealed  and  no  vehicles  will  be  allowed  to  enter  or  leave  the  area.       Workers  will  be  required  to  comply  with  a  Code  of  Conduct  that  the  College  has  agreed  with  the  contractors.    In  addition  to  the  project  management  company,  several  members  of  our  staff  will  be  monitoring  the  site  to  ensure  that  all  construction  workers  adhere  to  this  code   Safety  nets  will  be  placed  along  the  perimeter  of  the  site  to  prevent  debris  falling  from  the  construction  site.

Will  the  construction  be  noisy?   Any  construction  project  will  produce  noise,  and  we  will  be  working  with  the   contractors   to   control   the   timing   of   the   noisiest  works.  Many  of   the  noisiest  phases  of   the  construction  were  undertaken  during   the  summer  when   no   students   were   on   campus.   We   have   given   the   contractors   a  schedule  of  exams  and  performances,  and  are  in  constant  communication  with  them  to  ensure  they  do  not  perform  noisy  works  during  this  period.  Once  the  main  structure  is  completed  (scheduled  for  Chinese  New  Year)  the  noise  levels  should  be  reduced  considerably.

Page 10: Safety Presentation

What  can  be  done  to  reduce  and  control  dust?   The  new  wing  is  a  steel-‐‑based  structure,  which  will  produce  considerably  less  dust  than  the  concrete-‐‑based  structures  that  you  will  have  seen  in  many  locations  in  Beijing.  We  will  be  paying  close  a_ention  to  dust  levels,  and  in  the  event  there  is  too  much  dust,  children  may  be  sent  to  play  in  the  Sports  Dome  at  break  time.     Will  there  be  any  dangerous  materials  on  the  site?   There  will  be  no  dangerous  materials  on  site.

What  additional  play  area  will  be  provided  and  how  will  it  be  accessed?   At  the  beginning  of  term,  the  Dome,  the  new  Junior  School  playground,  and  the  re-‐‑developed  area  by  the  tennis  courts  in  front  of  the  school  will  all  be  available  as  play  space.  In  mid-‐‑September  the  West  Field  and  six  new  tennis  courts  will  also  be  available.     Will  this  extension  consolidate  the  Legend  Garden  Campus  with  Early  Years?   This  extension  will  not  incorporate  Early  Years  into  the  Legend  Garden  Campus.  The  new  facilities  will  serve  the  Junior  and  Senior  Schools.

Page 13: Safety Presentation

How  will  the  College  monitor  the  walk  along  the  bridge?   The  bridge  will  be  monitored  to  ensure  the  security  of  the  students  at  all  times.  There  will  be  a  security  guard  situated  at  the  base  of  the  bridge,  which  will  function  as  the  only  entrance  into  the  school  after  hours.

Who  will  be  available  to  answer  further  questions?   Our  Headmaster,  Brian  McDouall,  will  give  formal  presentations  on  the  construction  and  be  available  in  Coffee  &  Books  on  a  regular  basis  for  informal  chats.  He  will  also  be  available  to  meet  individuals  and  small  groups  to  answer  questions.    Please  contact  his  assistant,  Nina  Zhou,  nina.zhou@dulwich-‐‑beijing  .cn,  if  you  wish  to  arrange  a  meeting.
