Manual Handling…

• It is the movement of materials by human energy.

• It consist of lifting, lowering, pushing, pulling, dragging, carrying or moving of an items.

• These items may vary in size, weight, shape and delicacy.

• Bad lifting practices makes workers to suffer from back sprains, leg muscle pull, wrist/elbow/ spinal injury

OSHA LIFTING PROCEDURES

1. Plan ahead before lifting2. Feet shoulder width apart3. Bend your knees and keep your back straight4. Tighten your stomach muscle5. Lift with your legs

POWER ZONE

• The power zone for lifting is close to the body, between mid-thigh and mid-chest height.

Always use the handles or lift openings while lifting.

Pushing is preferable to pulling…Never bend to pick something upHold object close to urr bodyDo not twist or bendNeva lift an object that is too heavy.
