• Welcome and thank you for participating in this life-saving project.

• The purpose of this training is to learn and teach each other more about the importance of safety belts, and how to use them correctly and consistently.

• As Madrinas or Padrinos (Godparents) we promise to take responsibility for our Godchild in every way in the event that the child’s parents are no longer in their lives.

• Madrinas and Padrinos of Traffic Safety promise to take responsibility for the safety of their loved ones (regarding traffic safety) when there is lack of TS knowledge.

Defining The Problem

• Hispanics have lower rates of safety belt use than other ethnic groups in the U.S.

• Motor Vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death in Hispanics age 1-44.

• The single most effective way to reduce injuries in a crash is to correctly use a safety belt on every trip, every time.

• Do you know anybody that was injured or killed in crash because they were not wearing their safety belt?

• Why do people choose to not wear their safety belt?

Laws• Texas law requires that drivers and front seat passengers in all vehicles must be secured by a safety belt.

• Children under 17 years of age must be secured with a safety belt or in a child safety seat, whether they are sitting in the front or in the back.

Man Ejected During Crash

Man Ejected During Crash• A man was critically injured after he was ejected from

his SUV on the East Side early Friday morning.

Police said the man, who they believe is in his 20's, was speeding down the access road of Loop 410 when he lost control of his SUV around 1:15 a.m. The SUV slammed into a steel guardrail. The man was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle.

The man was rushed to Brooke Army Medical Center in critical condition
