• Harvard College Alcohol Study (CAS) “Binge Drinking on America College Campuses” – Nationally Representative Survey since 1993– In 1999 assessed students at 140 colleges and
institutions across 40 different states – N = 14,941– Binge Drinking defined:
• Males - consumed five or more drinks in a row• Females – consumed four or more drinks in a row within
the past two weeks

• College Alcohol Study (CAS) – 45% of college students binge drank when drinking– 47% drank to “get drunk”– Compared to non-binge drinkers, were more likely to:
• Miss a class (17 times)• Vandalize property (10 times)• Get hurt or injured as a result of their drinking (8 times)
– Binge drinking also found to contribute to poor academic performance and college dropout rates
