Project Baja 2013 U R W B SAE ? 2011 SaskTel Documentary Filming www.CougarMotorsports.ca Baja SAE is an intercollegiate design compeon that consists of three separate events within North America which typically take place during the months of April, May, and June. The underlying purpose of the compeon is to simulate real-world project management and engineering concepts and their related challenges. The Cougar Motorsports team is comprised of undergraduate students at the University of Regina. The par cipants are tasked to design and build an o ff-road vehicle that will compete against other univers i es in a variety of challenges that encompass both sta c and dynamic events. The dynamic events include: acceleraon runs; rock crawls; hill climbs; towing; land manoeuvrability; suspension & tracon events, as well as an endurance race. The stac events include a wrien report and a presentaon of design cost-assessment and marketability. The presentaon of design is evaluated upon criteria related to ergonomics, funconality, and producibility. Through Baja SAE, students are introduced to similar design and markeng challenges that an industry professional might encounter in developing a new product for industry. Teams compete against one another to have their design accepted for manufacture by a ficous firm. Students must funcon as a team to not only design, build, test, promote, and race a vehicle within the limits of the rules, but also to generate financial support for their project and manage their educaonal priories. All vehicles are powered by a ten-horsepower Intek Model 20 engine donated by Briggs & Straon Corporaon. The engine itself must remain completely unmodified; and as a result, students are mo vated to push the benchmarks of frame, suspension and steering design while developing more innova ve methods of power transfer.
