covered and quilted . You can also use your imagination to prepare the walls as you wish respecting the triangular shape and size. Do not make the round door yet I will explain that part during the workshop , put aside. Step 2 Making the Roof You will need to piece and quilted 2 rectangles that will create the roof. For each side of the roof you will need to piece (2) 4½''blocks stitched together , plus a border of 1''. The finished size of the rectangles should be 5½''x9½''. Refer to the pattern for more info , make a small sandwich of each side and quilt it as you wish .

Any kind of 4½''block will work , if you prefer to use my pattern, it was made with the paper piecing technique. I suggest that you print 2 patterns that are attached and prepare 4 paper piecing patterns for the 4 blocks you need . (Roof Pattern is provided at the end of the instructions) You will discover the rest of the technique the day of your class. Dont forget the rest of your supplies. 2 Seasons Cottage (This pattern , contains less sewing steps and more gluing steps it will be faster and simpler to piece compared to the Bird house and the Nativity Scene.) This cottage has 2 sides, the example shows a summer side and a holiday side, but you may decorate the sides to suite yourself. 2 Preparation options: Option #1 Raw edge appliqué Summer Side: Using the patterns provided and looking at the picture of the finished project; piece, quilt and appliqué to create the front triangle wall of the cottage , take your time , have fun , add as many details as you wish. (Summer Side front triangle wall pattern is given at the end of the instructions.)

You can use the same technique for the ''winter side''.

Option #2 Printed panel : (simpler and faster option) Using the triangle pattern as a template, transfer triangle shaped pattern piece to a piece of template plastic or use a plastic page protector that we often use in binders. Cover the pattern with the template plastic or slide the pattern in one of the plastic page protectors. Using a felt pen trace the outer lines. Use this see-through template to ''audition '' the pre-printed fabric panel. When you have the panel the way you like it, you are ready to cut. (Because of the triangular shape it is normal that the printed house won't cover exactly the shape but I will show you in class a ''trompe l'œil'' technique that will resolve that.) Cut a piece of the printed panel big enough to fit the triangle and add an inch all the way around to be safe. Make a sandwich of this front piece, batting and backing. Quilt it as you wish. Put aside. Repeat with a ''Winter Season ''panel. If you wish it will be cut in the triangular shape in class. The roof will be made in class. If you want to add characters, look into your decorations stash, you may find exactly what you need. Nativity Scene: Step 1 Use the pattern provided and 1½'' fabric strips for the back and 1''fabric strips for the front. Use the '' quilt as you go''* technique alternating dark and light fabrics to make a plank look. Use this quilted piece to cut the big triangle of the back wall and the smaller triangle for the front ½wall . (Nativity Wall pattern is at the end of the instructions)

You can also use any pattern you wish if you respect the triangle’s size. Step 2 Using the same pattern and the same technique as for the bird house, make 2 roof sides 9½''x5½'', using my pattern or any block pattern that you want. *''quilt as you go'' technique is piecing directly on a backing and a batting. You should make the triangle batting and backing a bit bigger than the top to make sure the quilted piece will be the right size at the end, you can cut using the triangle pattern as a template or wait to cut it in the class, the day of the workshop. Thank you for the interest you show to my work, Look forward meeting you In July at Sacred Threads 2013 event!
