November 12, 2017

Good Sunday to all! November is a powerful month of prayer and charity for Christians as they remember their dear ones who have died. I invite you to use Fr. Peter John Cameron’s litany below as an aid in your meditation, especially for those who have nobody to pray for them. FR DAVID

Litany of the Holy Souls in Purgatory

Response to each prayer: Lord, have mercy.

For those who have died without asking for forgiveness. For those who have died filled with anger. For those who have died spurning prayer. For those who have died without forgiving others. For those who have died neglecting their faith. For those who have died without ever saying “I’m sorry.” For those who have died not needing anyone else. For those who have died imbued with bitterness. For those who have died attached to worldly pleasure and indulgence. For those who have died oblivious to the poor and needy. For those who have ungrateful and ungiving. For those who have died tormented by regrets. For those who have died with disdain for purity. For those who have died with a vengeful or spiteful spirit. For those who have died with indifference towards holiness. For those who have died isolated or alienated. For those who have died unresponsive to God’s friendship. For those who have died surrounded by false idols. For those who have died obsessed with avarice. For those who have died cold and hard-hearted. For those who have died suddenly and violently. For those who have died without ever saying, “I love you.” For those who have died without the benefit of the sacraments. For those who have died yearning for divine mercy. For those who have died with the hope of eternal salvation.

CLOSING PRAYER: Most merciful Father, your beloved Son Jesus reached out with compassion to the widow of Nain and re-stored her dead son to life. By his Resurrection, Christ has conquered death. Fill me with confidence and trust in our Savior’s compassion. May I face death without fear, and live with unwavering hope in the One who raised Lazarus from the dead. For Jesus is our Lord, now and forever.

Religious Ed Corner CYO Fall Service Day, Sun., Nov. 19. SH/SsPP CYO (9th-12th graders) will rake leaves in Ethan, Dimock, Park-ston and Tripp, starting at 3 pm. (Note Time Change). Indi-viduals will provide bags for the leaves, and students are to bring rakes. We will tackle as many lawns as we can with the youth who are available to help. If you or someone you know could use a little help preparing their yard for winter, please contact the parish office by Tues., Nov. 14. Preference will be given to the el-

derly, disabled and homebound. Need not be

Catholic to inquire. Workers (we will need an adult to super-vise each crew!) need to RSVP by CCD on Wed., Nov. 15. We will have supper and conclude with the movie, Grace Un-plugged. We also will hold our Nov. CYO meeting at this time and resume with the “You’re Worth It” devo discussions we began last year. Community volunteer hours are available to Confirmation students who help! WE will need 4 adult vol-unteers to assist with transportation & supervision of raking crews.

Kitchen Committee is looking for additional members, in order to continue to offer them. We need a minimum of four people working in the kitchen, cooking, serving and cleaning for each meal. Help once, or help every time—future dates are set for Jan. 24th, Feb. 21 and March 21st. Sign-up sheet is in the main entry of Sacred Heart. Please contact Diane or Wendy for more info. The compensation plan is phe-nomenal—divine cuisine & eternal rewards!

Help Wanted! We are still in need of substitute teachers. Please contact Wendy (SH) or Tricia (SSPP) with questions, or to volunteer. This year at SH, we have established a nursery pro-gram for teachers and substitutes who need child care in order to commit to Religious Ed, because some individuals have expressed in the past that they would like to be involved, but are unable due to obligations to younger children. Please contact Wendy for more information on this program.

A Family Perspective by Bud Ozar The bridesmaids in today’s gospel were considered ‘foolish’ because they let their lamps go out. Don’t be foolish. Pay attention to the small acts necessary to keep the flame alive in all your relationships.

As we express our gratitude

we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live them.
