SACRED HEART WADSWORTH, OHIO I hope that everyone benefitted from the Parish Mission last week. We are very grateful to Fr. Bill Casey of the Fathers of Mercy, for spending this time with us. He spoke on the Holy Eucharist in our lives and the importance of adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. As I have said many times, Sacred Heart Parish is greatly blessed to have Perpetual Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. The commitment of so many people making a holy hour once a week makes it possible for

the chapel to be open and available 24 hours a day/ seven days a week. This helps so many people, especially when they are looking for a quiet place to be with the Lord. Whenever any one of us is faced with any kind of trial or tribulation in our lives or in the lives of our loved ones, it is good that we can go and be in the presence of the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament at any time. Of course, the Mass is the best and ultimate prayer we can offer because it is the prayer of Jesus offering Himself to the Father for us. When we attend Mass we are part of that prayer, that offering. It is not always possible to be at Mass, but next to the Mass the best place to pray is in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament. So we can see why having perpetual adoration in our parish is such a great ministry to the people of our community. We are always looking to strengthen our Perpetual Adoration ministry by having as many people as possible committed to a holy hour each week, or sharing an hour with family or friends. Last week in the bulletin there was a form to sign up for a holy hour and this Sunday there is also a form to sign up. Please prayerfully consider making this kind of commitment to God, yourself, and our faith community. Many people who make weekly holy hours will say that it is the most special time of their week. If we seek a deeper relationship with Jesus, the best thing we can do is spend more time with Him. If you would like to make this commitment to the Lord, please fill out the form and return it to the parish office. On Thursday, January 16, there was a gathering of the Legion of Mary in the church for prayer and reflection. All of the active and auxiliary members were invited. The purpose of the gathering was to pray and reflect on the work of the Legion of Mary in our parish. The Legion of Mary is a worldwide organization and the object of its work is the glory of God through the holiness of its members, developed by prayer and active cooperation in Mary’s and the Church’s work. The Legion of Mary is a lay apostolic association of Catholics who, with the sanction of the Church and under the powerful leadership of Mary Immaculate, Mediatrix of All Graces, serve the Church and their neighbor on a voluntary basis in about 170 countries. The Legion of Mary was started by Frank Duff in Dublin, Ireland in 1921. The work of the legion here at Sacred Heart consists of visiting homes in our parish. The members go out two by two, just as Jesus sent out the 72 in the Gospel. The members of our Legion of Mary visit the homes of new parishioners, couples who have recently had a child baptized, a family who has lost a loved one recently, and to evangelize our community. The Legion does work that is very important to the Church and to the mission that Jesus Himself gave us, to spread the Good News. Unfortunately, the membership in the Legion, as with many parish organizations these days, is not great. It is important that the Legion of Mary remain a strong and vital group in our parish because of the importance of the work it does. It does require a commitment of a few hours a week; a meeting each Thursday and one hour of going out to visit people or some other apostolic work. I would ask that everyone pray for the Legion of Mary and the work it does and that more of you might consider becoming active members, especially those of you who are auxiliary members already.

Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time “You are the salt of the earth. But what if salt goes flat? How can you restore its flavor? Then it is good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Men do not light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket. They set it on a stand where it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, your light must shine before men so that they may see goodness in your acts and give praise to your heavenly Father.”

SCRIPTURE READING REFLECTIONS OF THE WEEK – FEBRUARY 9, 2020 FIFTH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME

Question for Adults: In what way might you be hiding the light of Christ from others? What could you do to improve this? Questions for Children: How can you let the light of Christ in you shine for others this week?
