CHILDRENS’ LITURGY OF THE WORD

Our parish celebrates a Children’s Liturgy of the Word mass during the school year.

“Sometimes, moreover, if the place itself and the nature of the community permit, it will be appropriate to celebrate the Liturgy of the Word, including a homily, with the children in a separate, but not too distant room. Then, before the Eucharistic Liturgy begins, the children are led to the place where the adults have meanwhile celebrated their own liturgy of the word.”

What is CLOW? During mass, after the opening prayer, children Pre-K through 6th grade, are invited to go to the church hall to hear the readings of the day proclaimed and explained in age appropriate language. The children rejoin their families during the preparation of the gifts at the offertory. Younger children are often accompanied by their parents. If you have any questions regarding CLOW, please call Sr. Kathleen Masterson at 718– 224-5695.

Our CLOW masses will resume in the fall.

FAMILY MASS

During the school year Sacred Heart celebrates

a Family Mass.

At the Baptism Ceremony parents are reminded that they are the first teachers of their children, teaching them in all things especially their faith. One of the best ways to do this is to attend Mass together as a family. At Sacred Heart each month we have two special Masses for families. We celebrate Family Mass and Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW). At both liturgies the children’s readings are used. Children’s Choir Sacred Heart has a Parish Children’s Choir which performs at our Family Masses. All children are welcome to join. Choir practice is held on the Thursday before the Family Mass at 3:30pm in the school. For information, please call Mrs. Lyons, Director of Religious Education at 718-631-1307.

Our Family Masses will resume in the fall.

The following couples were married here at Sacred Heart Church in the month of June:

Paola Serpagli & Frederick DeChirico

Cathleen Chung & Daniel Yoonsoo Lee

We welcome the following children baptized into our faith community of Sacred Heart

Church in the month of June:

ENCYCLICAL ON THE ENVIRONMENT

In his June 2015 encyclical on creation care, Laudato Si’, Pope Francis proclaims that the poor are those most harmed by environmental destruction and climate change, and that developed countries like ours owe the poor an “environmental debt”. With Pope Francis we pray, “O God of the poor, help us to rescue the abandoned and forgotten of this earth, …that we may protect the world and not prey on it.” In the encyclical, we are urged to do what we can to support global agreements on sustainable development, on protecting ecosystems globally, and on limiting greenhouse gases to a greater extent in developed countries than in poor countries, and to NOT support the “ploy” of trading carbon credits since it does not reduce total global emissions. Rather, we are encouraged to reduce our consumption.

Our Youth Minister, Brandon Morel would like to engage our teens who have now received their confirmation and integrate them into the life of the parish. We have a youth group meeting for 7th & 8th graders after-school on Thursdays from 3pm to 5pm. If you are leaving 6th grade and entering the 7th grade in the fall you are also welcome to attend these meetings. “Join our High School Youth group. Meetings are held on Sunday nights from 6:30pm to 8:00pm. With pizza, games, video, and discussions we continue in growing a community of faith amongst our young people. In addition, we are still in need of volunteers for

Middle School and High School meetings. Please call the rectory at 718-428-2200 ext. 106 to speak with Brandon .
