The presenter Mrs M Kelly (Yr 1 teacher) will be sharing a few maths games parents can play at home with children. This Thursday we welcome to Sacred Heart our 2018 kindergarten children and their parents for orientation. It is an exciting time for them all as they experience what Sacred Heart can offer! Parents are welcome to come and watch our Book Week Parade after assembly on Friday. Parents are not expected to purchase costumes for the parade and recycled materials are encouraged. Congratulations to Romy B Yr 6 who was awarded “First Place” in the Stage 3 category for the Bishop’s Art Prize competition and to Presley F Yr 3 who was awarded “Highly Commended”. Both students will receive their awards at the CSO Pennant Hills on Tuesday 24 October. Wishing our year 5/6 debaters the best of luck tomorrow as they begin the debating season at Mater Maria. Term 4 Week 2 - 18 October 2017

Term 4 Core Value: Service School Rule: Be of service to others and in the environment Expectation of Behaviour: Lend a listening ear to someone who needs it

Dear Parents

This year our Hub executive has tried to do things a little differently. Meetings kept to a minimum, fun and parent engagement to a maximum. The Annual Fundraiser this year was also a little different and what an amazing success. It was never about the amount of money raised, well not from the school’s point of view and we are extremely appreciative of the money raised, but about developing relationships, networks and a faith community. A community with Catholic values, a community who cherishes respect, justice, compassion and service because these are the Christian values we wish to impart to our children.

During His preaching life, Jesus was keen to support the idea of volunteering to be generous when He said:

Luke 6:38

Congratulations to Amanda, Grant, Kellie, Julie, Vanessa, Lee, Jackie, Amy, Trish, Yvette and Diana for your incredible gift of service to our school. Sport News NSWPSSA Athletics Good Luck to Chelsea S in Year 6 who is competing today at the NSWPSSA Athletics Carnival at Homebush. Chelsea is representing Polding and racing in the 800m and 1500m. Michele Kerr – PE Teacher Manly Warringah Catholic Primary Schools Basketball Gala Day Basketball is alive and well on the Peninsula. Yesterday we took 40 Year 5 and 6 children to the Catholic Schools Gala Day. The children came up against some tough competition, winning some games and experiencing defeat in others. A special mention must go to our Sacred Heart Girls team 1 who were grand finalists. We enjoyed watching this nail biting game with a final score of 18 to Manly and 16 to our Sacred Heart girls. As a school we are always so grateful to the parents who volunteer to help or arrive to watch and find themselves managing a team or scoring games. Thankyou Mrs Whitelaw, Mrs Marrocco, Mr Lee, Mrs Wenborne, Mrs Hyland and Mrs Sljokic for your great support. Thanks must also go to Brad Dalton and Manly Warringah Basketball for supporting our school and providing skills sessions. Final thanks goes to Mrs Pitcher for her hard work and sharing her basketball knowledge with us all. Jayne Wheen – Assistant Principal

School Opal Cards for 2018 Applications for 2018 School Student Transport Scheme (SSTS) and Term Bus Pass (TBP) travel entitlements are now open. In coming days students who hold an SSTS entitlement and are changing grade bands ie going from year 2 to 3 or year 6 to 7 and changing school, and students whose entitlement was approved under a medical condition, will receive notification from Transport NSW by email or post informing them of the pending expiry of their entitlement. TBP holders will also receive notification. Families enquiring about pending cancellation are advised to go online to https://apps.transport.nsw.gov.au/ssts/updateDetails to update details/make application for next year’s entitlement. Applications need to be made before 31 December 2017 to ensure your entitlement is updated and your current card is not cancelled. If application is made after the expiry of your entitlement (31 December) the system will automatically cancel your card and a new one will need to be issued. Please note: Students who are changing grade band and are remaining at the same school will not receive notification and do not need to reapply (the system now automatically validates a student’s on-going eligibility if at the same school and going from infants to primary or primary to secondary). Where a student meets the new eligibility the system will automatically update their entitlement and card. Students in the Opal area applying for a SSTS or TBP entitlement for the first time will receive their card (posted to the nominated address) a week or two before the commencement of 2018 classes. New cards for 2018 are not posted in 2017 or during the Christmas / New Year period.

Kinder 2018 Class Parents Kinder 2018 Request for Class Parents We are looking for four (4) “sibling family” parents to be our kindy class parents in 2018. If you would like to volunteer, please phone the office or drop in. The first task for our K 2018 class parents will be to set two dates for a catch up at Flying Fox Park in the January school holidays, in the lead up to starting school. We will have a flyer in our Kinder 2018 orientation bags for this catch up, so need to set the dates as soon as possible. Volunteers for other year groups will be requested later this term.

2018 Payment Arrangement / Sibling Discount Forms Yellow forms were sent home last week for all families to return. Please ensure you sign the back of the form prior to returning.

School WHS Student Absence from School A friendly reminder to parents and carers that Full Day Absence (1-9 days) or Application for Extended Leave (10+ days) notes must be completed PRIOR to students going on leave for holidays or extended periods. These forms can be printed from our school website here. This is to comply with student attendance guidelines and WHS requirements.
